Default Question about heaven mentioned in the Qur'an
Assalamo alaykum ... I believe in Islam, but however i have some doubt, if you can plz help me clearing it....
Why the description of heaven in Qur'an is so materialistic?? The Houris (hoors/hoor al-Ayn) have variously been described as being "chaste females", "restraining their glances", "modest gaze", "wide and beautiful/lovely eyes", "untouched / with hymen unbroken by sexual intercourse", "like pearls", "virgins", "voluptuous/full-breasted", "with large, "non-menstruating/urinating/defecating and childfree", round breasts which are not inclined to hang", "companions of equal age", "transparent to the marrow of their bones", "eternally young", "hairless" , "pure", "beautiful", "white", "revirginating", "splendid beauty".
I can think of other materialistic things dere like palaces and all, because even there, we will stay human by nature, so we will like those things there as well, but what about men getting hoors, men never loosing their sexual strength?? was such things necessary to be present there? Wont their wives be jealous?? Scholars say that their will be no such feeling of jealousy, then why men will still want virgins there?
If heaven is a big picture, and all these things is just an optional part, then why only these things are mentioned in the Qur'an??
All these questions are raised by a non-muslim to me and i was unable to answer... Please put some light on this topic.

ASA,

Kuffaar question what Allaah (SWT) revealed in Qur'aan al Kareem, we as muslims don't and there is no need to answer them. The discriptions are 'materialistic' in order for the layman (to whom it is mostly intended for) to understand/comprehend.

Wa Alaikum Assalam wa Rahmatullah

I would avoid these non-Muslims who seem to be taking an un-healthy interest in Islam rather than a healthy one - not all satans are from the jinn.

If some types of people try to speak to you about your religion you would be better to avoid them or if you must see them change the subject

especially if it is as you say that you have doubts in the religion, you will not overcome them by speaking to these type of people

their ears are satan's toilet and their mouths are full of his deceiving stories.

the things of Paradise are not the things of the world they are infinitely better

they may have the appearance of the things of the world, but they are far beyond them in the perfection of their substances

if even a single houri were to come to the world her beautiful aroma would fill the whole world with a lovely smell

her chasteness should not be seen just in physical terms but in terms of her total purity which can never be sullied

The answer is simple...

As Muslims we are ordered by Allah to stay away from certain things in this life, in order that we can show our obedience to our creator, and because he knows that the things that he has ordered us to stay away from are actually harmful for us. In turn as Muslims, we sacrifice these worldly pleasures for the sake of God and the here-after, while non-muslims for the most part live their lives chasing after these pleasures and fulfilling them in any way possible. In turn Allah the most merciful and kind will reward the believers, the ones who struggled to stay away from these things in this life with a reward that is similar however better and purer and permissible in the next life.

If someone doesn't understand this, it's not really about having women in paradise, it's about their disbelief in God and the here-after.

sister these people have taught you to think about Paradise in an unclean way.

The most wonderful and pleasing thing in Paradise is proximity to Allah - this is what most pleases the people in Paradise.

The things of Paradise like palaces, beautiful food and drinks, beautiful gardens and company are all secondary.

Men are by their nature essentially polygamous whilst women are by their nature essentially monogamous, this is obvious from observation of human behaviour and has been confirmed by psychologists such as Carl Jung.

For someone with a male soul having a plurality of chaste partners is more paradisaical than having a single partner.

For someone with a female soul having a single most excellent and perfected partner is more paradisaical than having multiple partners.

Allah makes the people of Paradise purified and excellent, they stay who they are but become more and more beautiful as time passes.

Those women of Paradise whose souls have slightly more masculine qualities, as Allah has made a variation of people, are not left in a worse position than the men of Paradise because the people in Paradise shall have the things they want

- and indeed there is a place in Paradise that is like a market of forms and people can choose whatever form they wish - therefore the female believer in Paradise can encourage her perfected purified spouse in Paradise

(and that spouse need not be her spouse from the world it could be one she has asked Allah to make just for her to meet all hear dreams - i.e. her perfect dream man)

to go with her to that market and she can choose for him whatever form she wishes, therefore her single purified and perfected partner can appear in far more different beautiful forms than the male believer has houris (in fact in millions of different appearances), whilst staying in harmony with her essential nature of monogamy

Furthermore not everyone is the same, therefore some male believers in Paradise may remain monogamous to one woman forever in Paradise - so be careful sister not make assumptions about things that we do not know or to think that Allah is in any way unfair, because He (SWT) is the most Just and He knows what is good for human beings far better than they know themselves.

Not every worldly description of what is in heaven can be imagined by using "worldly" analogies. For example, in one of imam Shuhaib Webb lectures, he mentioned that the relative size of the lower heaven compared to the higher ones is like a ring in a desert, each time.

Also that relative over time, everyone in the heaven will grow more handsome for guys and beautiful for ladies that every wife is noticeably more beautiful to the husband and his family and vice versa. Can we imagine that someone who'll be more and more beautiful for eternity?

Also that every mu'minin who entered the heaven will be free from any ill-feelings, and when they're asked of any difficulties during the lifetime here, everybody will say no difficulties at all, such that the environment in the heaven that made everyone forgets about any tribulations of this life.

There are various topics on sunniforum that discuss about heaven and the mu'minin who will occupy it. My suggestion is to use a search function and read a bit about the situations in heavens, that will give a deeper understanding of the heaven.

Allah Knows Best.
