I have been worried about bringing up my children and I asked a Shaykh (may Allah preserve him) about tarbiyat e aulad and he replied with the following:

Tarbiyat e Aulad

1) First and Foremost: Pray for them "Rabbana hablana min azwaajina wa zurriyyatina qurrata a'yunin waja alana lil muttaqeena Imama"
2) Concentrate on basics of Din, Faraiz and at the same time teach them the importance of Akhlaq, Muasherat and Muamalat.
3) Teach them the importance of good Suhba, that is vital
4) Teach them Dunyawi Uloom, but do not let them consider Deeni Uloom inferior
5) Give them habit of Zikrullah, even if in minimum numbers
6) Keep then in touch with Seerat un Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam)
7) At night give them a Dars of Hayat us Sahaba, even if one page
8) Keep them away from ikhtilafi masail
9) Do not under estimate the importance of modern Uloom, unless they can earn for themselves,they will always be in the trap of shaytan to look to others for assistance
10) AND THE MOST IMPORTANT, TEACH THEM QURAN, EITHER YOURSELF OR BY A GOOD SCHOLAR, WITH IT'S MEANING AND BRIEF TAFSEER, ALONG WITH NAZIRA.
