Default Praying in France ? Be careful!

Yesterday, I was in the airport of paris, france, waiting for my connecting flight. The time for Zuhr came and as I was a musafir, I needed to pray 2 rakaats.

Whenever and where ever I pray, I first ask the staff where i can pray. When they showed me an isolated place, I made niyah and started praying. I believe it was in the second rakat when a policeman came and started shouting at my face " Don't pray here! " Being stubborn, I continued my salah, but had to break it when he started hitting me with his night stick. Allhamdulilah, didn't get hurt badly, just some minor bruises.

May Allah make praying in France easy for other muslims.

listen mate you should have filed a complaint. He has no right to hit you....you should have got his name/badge number and told him that you asked permission beforehand. Take it up with his superiors man....also get the guy who you asked for permission as to vouch for you. Seriously man if you don't do that next time the policeman might beat someone up badly...

Sue his stick man ... sue him.... !!! Dont let him go!! You gave money to their country by using the airport and like the bro said he has no right to do that!! I WISH I WAS IN YOUR PLACE!! I WOULD NOT HAVE NEEDED TO PRAY EVEN .... WOULD HAVE DONE THE JIHAD THING THERE AND THEN INSHA-ALLAH.

ok would have finished praying first no matter what?

Lol. I didn't do or say anything because the people around me were coming from the US. (note: non muslims mostly make jokes of Islam by saying "Islam is peace, huh peace my ***")

Man, that made me think how much mental and physical pain Rasullah SAW felt in taif for I had the mental pain of missing salah and physical of being hit.

But I'm no where near Rasullah. Even the dust on his shoes has higher value than me.

May Allah give us and everyone hidayah.

@ molwisaab: I live in many countries brother.
@ Abu Dajanaa: according to one muslim, they think that the physical practice of praying = planting a bomb in the sign of non muslims or Ecstasy.

May Allah make praying in France easy for other muslims.

Earlier this month I spent a night at charles de gaulle Airport (snow and flight cancellations)
There are two prayer areas, one located on each wing of the aiport.
Each one has a room for Muslims.

I was directed by the Information desk (these are dotted around everywhere)

Alhamdulillah - The two weeks I stayed in Paris were pleasant. I walked around the city wearing my thobe and praying in public places. No one said a word to me and often they would receive me warmly based on my attire. Of course there were some racist remarks but I would get those in certain areas in Birmingham as well and the warm response from Muslims more than compensated. Even those Muslims who showed no outwardly signs of being Muslims would go out of their way to give me salaam, and they were genuinely pleased to see me.

At the airport I found the prayer rooms are locked at 10pm to avoid squatters. So I prayed Isha nearby. Despite armed guards eyeing me I wasn't approached and when I glanced at them they looked away casually.

Bro, you'll find this everywhere you go.. just make sure you walk strong and smile at people. They'll soon warm up to us if we represent Islam as other than they hear on the news.

The last thing I want to do is discourage young Muslim men from visiting France. If you have a wife and family it may be different but as the representatives of this ummah we're obligated to visit these places and influence their hearts and minds. This is a form of dawah as well; as you mentioned about the way you reacted. I commend you for that!

Khayr, that was from my experience which doesn't take away from yours.
I'm glad you weren't injured bro.

As salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah

Sorry bro, but I think this is cowardice. Stand up for yourself. Create a media hype. If something like this happens to jews, every single news paper is talking about it , why? because they let the world know. If you file a complain and tell a few news agencies, I'm sure there will be at least ONE that will do something about it.

My brother was harassed in Canada because he has a beard and is disabled. After a couple of months, there were communities and news sources all over him because he filed a complain.

With all due respect to those questioning the OPs actions,

You've not been in that situation yourselves, and although we'd all like to believe we would act in a particular way, this is far from what actually happens. People often go into a state of shock and the immediate response is to do with your fitra.

Some are soft by nature and others are hard. Take the diversity among the prominent sahabah for example. There are numerous accounts where Abu Bakr Siddique and Umar al-Khattab (May Allah be pleased with them) held differing opinions regarding the same matter.

I don't know what I would do if I were you.

Imho, complain to Allah S.W.T- "O my Lord! I was beaten because I was obeying your order. Forgive me, elevate my rank and give that guy Hidayat with his family and also his next generations."

We once prayed with some brothers at a bus station in France full with unbelievers. Nobody said a thing, walhamdulillah.

What makes you think that I've (and others too) not been in such situations, I've actually been in many many situations where when not finding a suitable place for performing Salah, I've asked the authorities for permission for offering prayers, at times I've got it and at times, I haven't, when at times where I haven't received permission, I've (very humbly) asked them to provide me with any place clean enough to offer prayers, and Alhamdulillah, cannot recount when I've been refused.

The only issue here is how could the policeman evict him (and beaten him although mildly) when brother Numaan had asked for permission beforehand and why did he not lodge a complaint or atleast question the staff / policeman.

I've not asked him to wage Jihad or such. Its' just a matter of questioning the policeman's actions.

take a chill pill.

The OP's experience is may be linked to the current far-right comments made wherein it was said that "muslims praying in public are acting like the nazi occupation during the war [ie occupating the country]" so that made the public aware and suspicious of muslims even more.
Note the muslims praying in public do so only for jumu'ah prayers and only in specific places.

I don't appreciate your tone.
My comments were regarding the way you would react having been beaten.
