What al-Suwaidan fails to realize is that these "Christian" countries claim to be secular and have a separation of church and state - thus, they don't just allow Muslims to propagate their religion, but anyone from any religion is free to proselytize. They do not have a religious law governing them, whereas most Muslim countries that prevent non-Muslims from proselytizing have some aspects of shari'ah.

i thought about it and alhumdulillah got the answer. plan to write a full blog post on it so i will summarize it here:
1. christian missionaries use deception while muslim dawah does not. look here: http://contenderministries.org/islam/missionaries.php
we do not go specifically to poor areas to help out just the poor families dying of famine (or in financial trouble) and help them with money, food...and a bible. we do not make out of context interpretations of bible and other christian books as a tool of our trade. we do not resort to insulting the religious figures or even the religious aqaid of others. yes we criticize them, but with proof and with decency.

2. muslim dawah does not solely focus on non-muslims. the first and foremost avenue is one's home then one's neighbourhood; in short other muslims. which christian missionaries do dawah to christians or ex-christians or atheists?does that not give evidence of having an agenda. and that too a dishonest one. if one wishes to spread christianity, spread it evenly. why focus on non-muslims only and as i said why poor needy and desperate non-muslims in remote areas?

3. christian missionaries blatantly lie. distorting their own religion to hoodwink the unsuspecting and uneducated muslims. truly, baatil exposes itself fully by itself.

4. last but not least if secular countries wish to 'ban' muslim dawah like we have banned christian missionaries, then let them do so. they have no idea that enjoining good and forbidding evil is obligatory on every Muslim man and woman unlike the christians of today (even before it is not known whether it was obligatory for them. either way it does not exist for them at present). who will they ban?the TJ?the sunni tehreek?the salafi dawah?
how about the individual practising muslim who devotes his time to dawah to muslims and non-muslims alike?
how will you ban him?
the TJ, sunni tehreek and salafi dawah do not have funds. they don not have membership. they are not a cult or a company. how will you identify the members?will you ban the mosques?ban them from talking to non-muslims?

this is impossible. and it is only so because Allah has promised to protect the Deen. and devised a perfect way to do it. let them do whatever it is in their power and it will be fruitless in sha Allah.

the difference between muslim dawah and christian dawah is parable to that of a screen capture of two men on the edge of a roof of a tall building. one is holding the hand of the other while the other is hanging by the edge. they may seem similar but muslim dawah is akin to pulling the man up while the christian missionary is akin to (while in the guise of pulling the man up) letting his hand go, so he can fall down and die.

the difference is between eternal torture and a chance at least for Allah to forgive you. this is why it is banned, despite christian missionaries convinced (or otherwise) that they are on Haq. it is immaterial what they are convinced of as long as we muslims, secular or otherwise are clear on what is it in reality.
