The Killing of Abu Jahl in Badr
Bukhari,Volume 5, Book 59, Number 324: Narrated 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Auf(ra): While I was fighting in the front file on the day (of the battle) of Badr, suddenly I looked behind and saw on my right and left two young boys and did not feel safe by standing between them. Then one of them asked me secretly so that his companion may not hear, "O Uncle! Show me Abu Jahl." I said, "O nephew! What will you do to him?" He said, "I have promised Allah that if I see him (i.e. Abu Jahl), I will either kill him or be killed before I kill him." Then the other said the same to me secretly so that his companion should not hear. I would not have been pleased to be in between two other men instead of them. Then I pointed him (i.e. Abu Jahl) out to them. Both of them attacked him like two hawks till they knocked him down. Those two boys were the sons of 'Afra' (i.e. an Ansari woman). ![]() |

Only person to get the reward of participating in the Battle of Badr being absent:
Uthmaan bin Affaan ![]() Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 59, Number 395: Narrated 'Uthman bin Mauhab: A man came to perform the Hajj to (Allah's) House. Seeing some people sitting, he said, "Who are these sitting people?" Somebody said, "They are the people of Quraish." He said, "Who is the old man?" They said, "Ibn 'Umar." He went to him and said, "I want to ask you about something; will you tell me about it? I ask you with the respect due to the sanctity of this (Sacred) House, do you know that 'Uthman bin 'Affan fled on the day of Uhud?" Ibn 'Umar said, "Yes." He said, "Do you know that he (i.e. 'Uthman) was absent from the Badr (battle) and did not join it?" Ibn 'Umar said, "Yes." He said, "Do you know that he failed to be present at the Ridwan Pledge of allegiance (i.e. Pledge of allegiance at Hudaibiya) and did not witness it?" Ibn 'Umar replied, "Yes," He then said, "Allahu-Akbar!" Ibn 'Umar said, "Come along; I will inform you and explain to you what you have asked. - As for the flight (of 'Uthman) on the day of Uhud, I testify that Allah forgave him. -As regards his absence from the Badr (battle), he was married to the daughter of Allah's Apostle ![]() -As for his absence from the Ridwan Pledge of allegiance if there had been anybody more respected by the Meccans than 'Uthman bin 'Affan, the Prophet would surely have sent that man instead of 'Uthman. So the Prophet sent him (i.e. 'Uthman to Mecca) and the Ridwan Pledge of allegiance took place after 'Uthman had gone to Mecca. The Prophet ![]() Ibn 'Umar then said (to the man), "Go now, after taking this information." |

Muslim Book 40, Number 6868:
Anas b. Malik (ra) reported: We were along with Umar(ra) between Mecca and Medina that we began to look for the new moon. And I was a man with sharp eye- sight, so I could see it, but none except me saw it. I began to say to 'Umar: "Don't you see it? "But he would not see it. Thereupon Umar said: "I would soon be able to see it (when it will shine more brightly)." I lay upon bed. He then made a mention of the people of Badr to us and said: "Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) showed us one day before (the actual battle) the place of death of the people (participating) in (the Battle) of Badr and he was saying: 'This would be the place of death of so and so tomorrow, if Allah wills.' Umar said: By Him Who sent him with truth, they did not miss the places (of their death) which Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) had pointed for them. Then they were all thrown in a well one after another. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) then went to them and said: 'O, so and so, the son of so and so; O so and so, the son of so and so, have you found correct what Allah and His Messenger had promised you? I have, however, found absolutely true what Allah had promised with me.' Umar said: 'Allah's Messenger, how are you talking with the bodies without soul in them.' Thereupon he said: 'You cannot hear more distinctly than (their hearing) of what I say, but with this exception that they have not power to make any reply.' " |

“We will never say as the Children of Israel said to Musa
![]() The response the Companions ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() «أشيروا علي أيها المسلمون» (Advise me, O Muslims!) inquiring of what the Ansar, the majority then, had to say. Sa`d bin Mu`adh ![]() ![]() [فَاذْهَبْ أَنتَ وَرَبُّكَ فَقَاتِلا إِنَّا هَـهُنَا قَـعِدُونَ] (So go, you and your Lord, and fight you two, we are sitting right here.) By He Who has sent you with the Truth! If you took the camels to Bark Al-Ghimad (near Makkah) we shall follow you.” Imam Ahmad, An-Nasa’i and Ibn Hibban also recorded this Hadith. In the Book of Al-Maghazi and At-Tafsir, Al-Bukhari recorded that `Abdullah bin Mas`ud said, “On the day of Badr, Al-Miqdad said, `O Messenger of Allah! We will never say to you what the Children of Israel said to Musa, [فَاذْهَبْ أَنتَ وَرَبُّكَ فَقَاتِلا إِنَّا هَـهُنَا قَـعِدُونَ] (So go, you and your Lord, and fight you two, we are sitting right here.) Rather, march on and we will be with you.’ The Messenger of Allah was satisfied after hearing this statement.” Tafsir Ibn Kathir |

The Messenger
![]() ![]() «قُومُوا إِلَى جَنَّةٍ عَرْضُهَا السَّمَوَاتُ وَالْأَرْض» (Get ready and march forth towards a Paradise as wide as the heavens and earth.) `Umayr bin Al-Humam ![]() «نَعَم» (Yes) `Umayr said, “Excellent! Excellent!” The Messenger asked him, «مَا يَحْمِلُكَ عَلَى قَوْلِكَ: بَخٍ بَخ» (What makes you say, `Excellent! Excellent!’) He said, “The hope that I might be one of its dwellers.” The Prophet said, «فَإِنَّكَ مِنْ أَهْلِهَا» (You are one of its people.) Umayr went ahead, broke the scabbard of his sword, took some dates and started eating from them. He then threw the dates from his hand, saying, “Verily, if I lived until I finished eating these dates, then it is indeed a long life.” He went ahead, fought and was killed, may Allah be pleased with him.
