Default Is it true that the four imams met?
Not only that, but imam Abu Hanifa learned from Imam Malik, and Imam Shafi'i learnt from both of them? So is it not fairly baseless for someone to claim that you should only stick to the teachings of one of the imams and leave the others? But unknowingly you will be learning something from the other imams anyway? We should be open minded like that and accept everyone as a caller to the truth with some maybe more closer to the truth than others.

Madhabs are not entirely built upon the opinions of the Imam it's named after, it includes usool that are based upon his teachings, and well has some of his statements connected the opinions inside of the Madhab, however a lot of it is also based upon what his students, and various other scholars of the Madhab have collected, understood and formulated, which in turn made each Madhab what it has become. In fact, each Madhab is more or less built upon the Usool of the Imam rather then his direct opinion or fiqhi selection, and sometimes the Madhab disagrees complete with his opinion.

Imams Abu Hanifa and Malik met eachother and benefited from each other

Imam Shafi learned from Imam Malik and then benefited from some of Imam Abu Hanifa's students

Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal met Imam Shafi (and i believe studied under him).

No they did not all meet each other as they lived at different times.

the pointof the madhab is not exclusivity of the scholars you follow, but that the fiqh you follow is all consistent with a certain set of usool.

Bismillah

Imam Abu Hanifa and Imam Malik were contemporaries, they met and benefitted from each other.
Imam ShafiŽi studied under Imam Malik and Abu Hanifa's student Muhammad bin al-Hasan al-Shaybani.
Imam Ahmad studied under Abu Hanifa's student Abu Yusuf and under Imam ShafiŽi.
