Default Does our piety have any value in the sight of God?
Aslamo Alikum,

Dear All,

Many of us are very pious and there are many righteous people among us, but does our righteousness and piety means anything to God, does it have any weight in the sight of God if we are not establishing Islamic Laws (Sharia) in our country.

I see the things in the light of this verse, where God says, O People of Book, you are on nothing unless you uphold the laws of Torah and Gospel

Since, God's ways are not changed, He (swt) sees Muslims in the same way. If we are not upholding the laws of Quran, then we are on nothing in the sight of God no matter how much we pray or worship.

Say, "O People of the Scripture, you are [standing] on nothing until you uphold [the law of] the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to you from your Lord." And that which has been revealed to you from your Lord will surely increase many of them in transgression and disbelief. So do not grieve over the disbelieving people.

Dude, I don't get it. How can someone be pious and pray and not uphold the laws of the quran? These are two are not mutually exclusive, as far as I was taught. Can you please clairfy?

Is there a difference between being a legalist and being pious???

If you study the Gospel of Jesus, it appears that the Jewish problem wasn't there inability to follow the law, for they followed it. They were legalist, but they weren't necessarily pious...

I've been trying to compare Jews, Christians and Muslims because the Prophet (sallahu alayhi wa salam) said we would imitate them... As they have deviated so will we....

You cannot be a muttaqi if you are not strict on the shari'ah. Taqwa means fear of Allah . If you're not following His laws to the dot, then you don't have complete fear of Allah .

No one has complete taqwa of Allah...not you, me or the greatest of our ulama... except the Messenger of Allah (sallahu alayhi wa salam) and I believe the other Prophets were given maqam as well.

And Allah knows best.

A bit off topic >_>
But how would you brother say about someone who is apparantly a person of taqwa or piety and doesn't follow the legal laws of Allah? Is it even possible?

Who even claimed such a thing? The fact remains, if we don't live our life according to full compliance with the shari'ah, if we don't leave the doubtful matters, then we are disobeying Rasoolullah in even his mere recommendations and that is not taqwa.

Aslamo Alikum,

Allah (swt) says, cut the hands of thieves or according to some others, mark the hand of thieves.

Definitely, it is not a duty of me to cut/mark the hands of thieves, it is the duty of all of us.

So, my question to you that are we upholding the Laws of Quran (Shariah)? Where in our countries, the hands of thieves are cut/marked?

Are we doing efforts to bring Shariah in our countries? Then what is the use of our piety if it is not good for Allah (swt)'s Deen?

Ok so lets agree with what you are saying. Lets say our piety doesnt mean anything because we cant implement Islamic laws like cutting off hands of thieves in the places where we live, what shall we do? Do we have any choice other than adopting piety and living how Allah swt told us to live?

We must help and support those who want to bring Shriah in our countries. If we are not doing this, then our piety is just nothing in the sight of Allah (swt) because we are not upholding the laws of Quran.
