Shaykh (Dr) Ilyas has written extensively about the history of Madina and the Mosque. He is a native of Madina and mentions and talks about nothing of this sort i.e. a dead-body on top of the dome.

People can speak to him directly during their visit to Madina.

That's what I thought. Anyone know the reason why it was built? Anyway, it seems this one of the la-ya'ni things that I shouldn't be concerned about.

I need to double the book for this but when I went for Umrah in 2007 I bought the book History of Madinah by Dr Ilyas. In it he mentions that the on the green dome a window was built so that when the sun is at midday (or some other point) the sunshine will directly go onto the grave of Rasulullah (SAW).

I don't know how anyone can beleive the corpse story...

Sultan al-Maunsur was the first to build a dome. There was also a fire at some point, which is more significant and is historical fact, rather than shi'aa stories.
