Take this scenario, a guy comes to pray in masjid in sleeveless and shorts covering the knee cap. The same guy goes to his non muslim manager's home, neatly dressed formals, full hand, ironed clothes. Is it shirk? Did the guy go to his boss in a suit and prostrate infront of him? did he go to a mosque in shirts etc... and refuse to do "sajood"? |

Salaam.
I think it's all personal preference. But most importantly, as long they cover their awrah, i don't think we should judge them. Let Allah judge them. Some people don't do it on purpose, they could be from a football game or other activities and maybe they forgot to bring a more appropriate clothing to prayer. Happens to me at times too. Infact we should be proud youngsters are making the effort to go to mosques to do prayers! |

Dear all,
I would like to step in. There must be discipline in Masjid. I am from India so I can talk about the people of my subcontinent. People from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka - Before 500 years did anyone wear Bermudas/shorts and came to Masjid? - If someone tells that Bermuda wasnt invented during that time, did any of our forefathers wore a short lungi/pyjama? - Its the modern thinking and new generation muslim's intellectual that is making us to omit the discipline of Islam "Do not approach prayer while you are drunk…" [Nisa:43] -hope people dont read this Ayat and interpret in their own way. |

Salaam. Infact we should be proud youngsters are making the effort to go to mosques to do prayers! I was thinking of speaking to them. But I thought in the similar lines, and stopped. The incident I have quoted happened in masjid located in a residential locality. These youngsters had come from their residence. |

Then maybe they probably thought that there is nothing wrong with their clothing. Which by your description, i don't see much wrong either. Maybe not the most appropriate attire for prayers, but at least their awrah is covered. Where i am from, it is very common to see youngsters and adults alike dressing up with tshirts and bermudas for prayers.
You can always advice them on their attire brother. I don't think they'd mind a nice gentle reminder (: |

Assalamu alaykum ![]() Unfortunately the situation in other countries is such that that of the 4 guys is not an exception, but rather the norm. And if you go to the masjid in shalwar qamis, topi/turban, then the musallis will start staring at you (in not making fun of you)! ![]() |
