aSalamu alaykum warahmatullahi wabaraktu
I hope everyone is doing fine insha'Allah. Allhamdulilah it is easy for guys to access shuyookh and learn from them, but sometimes i guess it is harder for sisters. SubhanAllah, many of us male students get a chance to go to gatherings and sit around and learn from the students of knowledge and sheikhs. I was wondering if anyone here knew of any sister murids in the NJ area of particulary Shaykh Hussain AbdulSattar, Shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmed Naqshbandi, or like Mawlana Hakim Akhtar Saheb (db). It'd be pretty awesome if like my mom and her friends and sisters and stuff can get to learn from them. If not, would any of you perhaps know of any online courses for sisters/aunts- particularly in Urdu? Like it'd be awesome if there is something like Seeker's Guidance (the course by sh.Faraz Rabbani, sh.Yayha Rhodus, etc, BUT in urdu. Especially the Tazkiyah/Tasawuff area. This is for just something for our parents generation, so they can inshaAllah get involved too! jazakumAllah khair |

How popular is Tasawwuf among the religious BD people living in New York ? Recently, they told me some stuff which show that they are getting influenced by the salafi ( Wahabi) people there. Is Salafi dawah strong there ? |

I have some Bangladeshi relatives living in New York. I want them to get them connected to a good Sufi shaykh living in or near New York. Do you any Bangladeshi guy who attend zikr gathering in New York ? ![]() Yes, in New York the salafis have a lot of influence, especially among youth. Deobandis/Asharis are not as visible, although this is beginning to change with a lot of young madrasah graduates becoming known to the community and giving khutbahs and things. Usually it's only salafis who talk about aqeedah or fiqhi issues and present only their views without acknowledging the existence of other views, which is why people are getting influenced. In NY, people are not really aware of distinctions like ashari/salafi/deobandi/barelwi, so if they hear some guy say something in jummah khutbah, they just accept it without question. If you are looking for a shaykh in NY, I can recommend shaykh Ahmad Arshad, khalifah of shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmad Naqshbandi, who lives in Brooklyn. I am Bangali, but I don't get a chance attend his gatherings except on occasion. The shaykh is from Pakistan (speaks English and Urdu); I don't know any Bangali mashayikh, unfortunately, if you are looking for a Bangla-speaker. I think shaykh Nadeem Qureshi is also a khalifah of shaykh Zulfiqar, and he lives in NY as well and runs a Muslim funeral home here, but I don't know him personally. His website is www.tawwabeen.org I can't speak for Bangalis in particular, but in NY, tasawwuf is not really popular and is in fact looked upon with derision, suspicion, or hatred because of salafi propaganda. Even those who don't have any problem with it, aren't really into it. |
