السلام عليكم

Indeed everytime I visit Haram Sharief I marvel at synchronizing pattern of cleaning of these brothers. They do it so cheerfully! My young daughers get thrill out of their action.

السلام عليكم

The Prophet (pbuh) passed by a grave and asked his companions about it. His companions replied it is the grave of Umm Muhjan. The Prophet (pbuh) rebuked them because they did not inform him of her death and then prayed the funeral prayer over her. He then said: ‘Why did you not inform me?’ They replied- you were sleeping and we did not like to wake you’. The Prophet prayed for her and had great respect for her as she used to spend her efforts in cleaning the house of Allah and the Prophet’s masjid.

May Allah Bless all those who strive to clean his houses of worship.

How much money do those brothers in cleaning job really get ? Are they really happy with their salary ? Or , do they feel exploited ?

1. They earn much more money than they would if they were doing something similar in India/Pakistan/Bangladesh. Not to mention that things are generally cheaper in Saudi Arabia and they're probably earning more than people doing the same job in the West earn for janitorial work.
2. They earn less than what a Saudi or an Arab would earn. This is a big problem everywhere in the Arabian Gulf, where the people doing the exact same work get different pay depending on whether they are Arab or non-Arab, European/American or Asian. Even white Christians from Europe and the US/Canada earn more than people from Pakistan/India/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka, unless they also hold passports and citizenships from Western countries.

So, if you're going to complain about equality in pay, then it's probably best that you don't go to the Gulf Arab countries for employment. But, if you want to earn more than what you'd earn in the Indian subcontinent and don't care that an Arab may be making more money than you for the same work, it is great. Plus, you get to live in Makkah and serve the hujjaaj and mu'tamireen.

Assalamu alaykum

I have met many pakistani and Bangladeshi brothers who clean the haram. More than earning money these brothers have intentions of serving the haramain sharifain. In fact they also pay money to agents to get a job there. Their earnings are very very less (not worth leaving their families and migrating to other country). I request our brothers who visit haram to contribute sadaqah or hadayah to them (if they to agree to take), it is worth.

Regarding the cleaning, I say it is almost a miracle to clean the haram when haram is jam packed. During haj season and ramadhan, a square foot of place is not empty in whole mutaaf and surrounding masjid. But these brothers clean the haram (without leaving a small area) for four times. The cleaning for four times is as per the instruction of the local muftis.

Most of the cleaners get tipped by the people coming to the Haram. People just dole out money on them.

If this is the case , then those brothers might not feel frustrated or oppressed. I read somewhere that the dua ( or cry ) from a majloom ( oppressed) ,even if he is Kafir , gets accepted readily. Imagine the dangerous scenario if a cleaner makes a bad dua while cleaning the harma sharif !! Big disaster !!
