The best khalwa (isolation) is to hide in the deepest recesses of your Qalb (heart),all alone with your Rabb (Lord),while all the time surrounded by people. What is said about Naqshbandis is true for all tareeqa's.
"Naqshbandi a jab qafila salar ast Ke posheeda ba haram me rawan qafila ra" 'Naqshbandi's are strange guides of wayfarers, they make them reach the haram (Holy Sanctuary) on hidden routes' |

If I remember correctly there is a verse about such a thing in Junaid Jamshed's nasheed "Mujai Zindagi Main Ya Rub". Mujhe doston ki jhurmuth mein wo bekali ataakar" Every other verse of this poem is pure beauty and love. It is far more filled with pain and heart touching effect if listened in Hazat Mufti Taqi Usmani Sab db's own voice. The audio is somewhere in www.bhatkallys.com poor urdu for translation..if Maripat sir can attempt it would be great... |

Ahem ... let me give this a try.
Khilwat is solitude. Solitude is the state where you are not sharing your experience with others. Now let us consider the state of a young man who has got a job some time back and the parents are going to take him to see a girl - his prospective bride. At the moment the gentleman is in his office but the outing is scheduled for the evening. In the office the guy is attending meetings and devising solutions and interacting with all the other office people but in his heart he is just occupied with the prospects of the evening - how will it go and what will happen. So the person is in the public but the heart is dedicated some where else. I suppose it is not impossible to imagine. Attaining the same state in relation to Allah(SWT) might take some efforts and in all probability will require a Shaikh but it is not impossible to achieve. And it is desirable because Allah(SWT) says that if you forget me even for a moment I'll make your life miserable. And if it is still too intricate for us then let us just remember that our mandate is rather simple - to avoid sins and indulge in acts of obedience. Wassalam |

brother Amr this concept cannot be mentioned. It is learnt from mashaikh and one needs to do some mujahidah before one can achieve this. This is actually the maqam of ihsaan which is the pinnacle of iklaas....words cannot describe it. May ALLAH give it to us and increase the blessings in it ameen. |
