Have you listened to the first part of this 'lecture'? If so, insha'Allah you will get these words from Yunus Emre (insha'Allah you'll get it either way):

The Soul Is A Mighty Person
The soul is a mighty person
And the body serves as his horse.
All those bites of food you gobble
Give your body strength and force.

If you devour every last bit,
That food is your body's profit;
It means no gains for the spirit,
But makes the flesh even more coarse.

Its affairs are favor and grace;
Brightest men can't grasp what it says.
The soul--this bird of Paradise--
Is the blissful state of lovers.

(translation by Talat Sait Halman)

Can Bir Ulu Kimsedür
Can bir ulu kimsedür
Beden anun atıdur
Her ne lokma yirisen
Bedenin kuvvetidür

Ne denlü yirisen çok
Ol denlü yürisen tok
Cana hiç ıssı yok
Hey suret maslahatıdur

İnayetdur anun işi
Anlamaz değme bir kişi
Bilgil ki bu hümâ kuşı
Âşıklarun devletidür

this lecture series is possibly one of the best and most informative introductions to tasawuff i have ever heard....

In a way I think this lecture series changed my life.

i think it would be difficult even for a staunch anti-sufi not to be swayed by Shaykh Hussain's style and the content of his message.

one of the interesting points of th electure is hwen Shaykh Hussain mentions that he never uses the term sufi or sufism to describe tasawuff because of the loaded term that it has become and to avoid people judging it by what some wayward so-called dervish in some forgotten corner of the world does at a grave yard (not quite his exact words).

Brother... I noticed you are in western Canada and I wonder if you could let me know about teachers/shaykhs ("doctor of the soul") in the area?

I can recomend ulema/shaykhs but not sufi shaykhs as I do not know any locally.

I sense that you were interested in the latter. I don't really know of any in the alberta region.

The shaykh I've benefited the most from locally is Shaykh Fayaz Tilly, may Allah preserve him. he is a good source of guidance for the community. although he is not a sufi shaykh (shaykh-e-kamil).

Oh and Shaykh Hussain website is a gold mine of lectures on spiritual development and jihadunnafs I would reccomend it to everyone. Pretty much everyone I introduced it to loves the website.

brother, both are appreciated but, yes, I am particularly looking for a sufi shaykh. Is Shaykh Fayaz Tilly in Calgary?

If there is anyone on this forum from Western Canada who knows of a sufi shaykh, please let us know.

there are probably shaykhs in the vancouver region.

around here i do know of one fellow called sohrwardy, however he's brelwi oriented and involved in some very shady practices. including attending ashura gathering with ****tes or so it is rumored.

truth be told i haven't really asked around about legit sufi shaykhs in my area but is highly doubtful that are any genuine shaykhs in Calgary.

Shaykh Fayaz Tilly is in Calgary, he's a source of blessing for the community, but he is not a sufi shaykh. so not what you are looking for.

if you're interested in finding a shaykh you should probably first read this:

http://www.sufizikr.org/wp-content/u...t__Tariqat.pdf

keep in mind that choosing a shaykh is not a matter one can take lightly.

Also I second Acacia's question, if there is anyone who knows of legit sufi shaykhs in western Canada (alberta area especially) please speak up.

I recall Imam Syed Soharwardy from a fatwa that was in the news not too long ago (I posted a link to it on SF) about the honour killing trial. I am not interested in elaborate or shady practices or anything that involves whirling, dancing or singing. Just guidance with silent dhikr ("over-the-counter' and 'prescription' dhikr for the heart, mind and soul"), much like what Shaykh Hussain seems to do.

for the booklet, I will read up on it insha'Allah and I do wish to find a sufi shaykh but am very cautious about who to choose and am in no rush so for sure, I am not taking this lightly.

yes, I noticed them and intend to listen to them one-by-one.

The talks of Shaykh Hussain are absolute gems.

Here is a link to a large number of his wonderful talks on a wide variety of topics:

http://www.sacredlearning.org/general-talks

There are other talks on the same website as well, you can find them via the links on the menu on the left-hand of the website.

The depth of his understanding and the clarity of his speech is truly rare.

Brother, I just wanted to let you know that I received a reply from tasawwuf[dot]org (Shaykh Zulfiqar, db) - his khalifa in Canada is located in Toronto (only 1 name was provided so I am assuming that he is the only khalifa here... see this thread, post #8 for name).

Alhamdulillah sister, I am doing well. How are you?

I was trying to get readers to do some 'exercise' by looking at older posts but you missed the link in my previous post so here's the name: Hafiz Abdul Rasheed.
