if you dont feel better after seven days go back to the docter and he will either prescribe more of this antibiotic or will give you a stronger version. With antibiotics it is key to keep taking them persistently untill the full symtoms go away otherwise your body ends up outwitting the anti biotics so it does not have the same effect.

Walaikom AlSalaam
Brother i have had pneumonia recently (two months ago) and al hamdulilaah i have gotten better after taking my anti-biotics, during the pneumonia i was coughing like crazy phlegm and some small spots of blood. As others said, always take your anti-biotics as directed and finish the anti-biotics course. And during your anti-biotics i recommend eating yogurt or drinking laban (doogh), the Prophet peace be upon him, loved drinking laban. Laban and yogurt contain pro-biotics which will help restore the good bacteria in your body which gets affected by the anti-biotics you might be taking for the chest infection. May Allah give you and all Muslims good health. |

As salaam alaikum wa rahmatullah, It depends on the antibiotic given and normally 5 days should also do..if you have had such infections in the past then it could be due to allergy from something such as dust, perfumes, cold weather (or change of weather/season) etc..and if not then this could simply be due to mucus accumulating overtime..in any case take warm things (also see if u can get urself Joshanda - herbal medicine for congestion's ..) take rest and hope for the best..may Allah ta'ala grant u good health.. Wassalamu Alaikum |

As salaam alaikum wa rahmatullah, another home made thing u can try on the side. before going to sleep boil 2 eggs(not hard boiled but watery). and eat it (or slurp more like) with black pepper. Round it off with a nice cup of green tea. before popping into bed get some balm and rub it on your chest and if u have headache then on your forehead. for blocked nose balm is also good. I had a sauna face machine before and in the water i used to put some menthol or the eclupatusy thing and it would give me 5 mins of peace. but offcourse you know that blocked nose is very stubborn. |

ASWW yeah theres alot of bugs out there, since alot of the sports you undertook were out door and public, theres a higher probability of catching a virus, also if your doing alot of sports make sure you eat right too as you can become deficient in vits and this too can cause a weaker immune system, which then makes you prone to infections. Steroids wil reduce the inflamtion but also will weaken your immune system, so are not good for long term usage. The antibiotics will remove infection normally a dr can tel by tapping or listening to your chest, but the main symptom is normally the ttypical green yellow mucus that you cough and fever with pain too. Basically you're having nomral typical symptoms of somthing viral, google some home remedies and booost yyour immune system. Allergies can cause inflamtion in the lungs and also can cause increase production of muccus but i doubt thats your problem. |

As salaam alaikum wa rahmatullah, Exercise induced asthma? [edit: on a side note, careful with the antibiotics and I agree with post #5 about consuming yogurt, pro-biotics for your intestinal flora since antibiotics wreak havoc on the good bacteria along with the bad.] |

As salaam alaikum wa rahmatullah,
Anyone ever had Bronchitis or a severe chest infection. I started cycling and swimming just over a week ago and, before I knew it, I developed a chest infection with violent coughing and wheezing, accompanied with lovely phlegm. The thing is I have been on Amoxycillin (anti-biotics) since friday and Prednisolone (steriods) since sunday, now the symtoms have eased, but I am still feeling wheezy and have bouts of violent coughing with lovely phlegm. I would have thought that the symptoms should be gone after a few days on anti-biotics. Anyone had a similar experience? |
