Lately I've seen posts popping up about freelancing and what not, so I figured I would ask if there are any IM'ers (Internet Marketers) on here. Masha'Allah, it would be great to network with fellow Muslims doing business online. I have been doing IM for a few years on and off, and I actually have some specific questions regarding IM and Shariah as well... as far as what kind of business models are better to go after, what should one avoid (besides the obvious), etc, but I will refrain from posting those questions (and also Insha'Allah some suggestions) until I get confirmation that we infact have some IM'ers (or aspiring IM'ers) on here. |

I do that alongside my wifes graphic design company. I am more on the website/content creation and affiliate marketing side. We constantly do research to find trending topics which we can build small sites around and provide relevant information about the topic while including some products with affiliate links to make commission. Since I starting practicing the deen more, Alhamdulillah, I have been analyzing my business to make sure it is Islamically sound. I got rid of some websites which I wasn't comfortable with and am waiting for advice on a couple of others (one selling kids easter merchandise, not sure if i should keep it or not). Since I am trying to make sure my business is 100% halal Insha'Allah, I was thinking about doing something similar for Islamic products... such as clothes/hijabs/kufis/etc but wasn't too sure what kind of demand there is for those products online. That way we would Insha'Allah be providing a deeni service to brothers and sisters, earning an income at the same time, while having no doubts about it being halal or not. What are your thoughts on this brother? How is your business doing? |

How is your business doing? may Allah put barakah in your business as well inshallah. |

im not sure how your business model works but im guessing it has to do with generating traffic to your sites in order to make money from advertising and providing leads to other businesses. You are right in what you said about the niche market stuff. Basically there are some marketers who go after a really big market and make one large, 'authority' type website (lets say such as SF where you can discuss everything related to Islam as opposed to them only having a Quran section or only a brothers or sisters section or only a section on salaat, etc, these would be the 'niche markets' just as an example).. and then we have marketers who go after smaller markets because there is less competition and they hope to capitalize with quantity (i.e. have 10 sites with small niche markets with little competition easily making $10/month rather than having one big site in a very competitive large niche market making $100 month but with much more effort and work). So I try to do a little bit of both, somewhere in the middle. I have some sites which are only no more than 3 pages of info about a single product and then we try to make money with that traffic while providing value, and I have some sites which are a few 100 pages after different types of products in the same market... so it depends. But yeah I've never been in the Islamic products market before and will definitely Insha'Allah dedicate more time researching and possibly starting some Islamic sites. mashallah business is good on the graphic design side which has been around for about 5 years now. i am trying to make an offshoot of that business by providing marketing and advertising, and printing oppurtunities for businesses. early days yet but with your duas inshallah i hope to do well. Alhamdulillah, good to hear that. Yes graphic design is a very good business and I know it is very competitive as well, so Masha'Allah if you have survived 5 years and doing good then Insha'Allah you will continue to make progress! I actually hire graphic designers here and there from some freelance sites, maybe we could talk some business sometime Insha'Allah. My dua's are with you and Insha'Allah you and your wife will be successful in your new business ventures with Allah swt's grace. Ameen. It's good that you are trying to expand into providing other services for businesses. That's actually a very smart idea... because you already have business owners coming to you for graphic designing so why not expand the type of services you can offer to them. You can also look into providing SEO (search engine optimization) services which there is a huge demand for these days and if any business owner is coming to you for doing graphics for their website, they would usually surely be in need of SEO services as well. may Allah put barakah in your business as well inshallah. for your dua's and kind words brother. |

Salam,
I have been involved in online business since last 9 years or so (web development, affiliate marketing, e-commerce, startups, etc) and working on a few projects at the moment. I would like to network with fellow affiliate marketers here so if there is any way I could get in touch with you, let me know. Wasalam |
