Default Straight Edge music
I recently quit listening to music, but I often listened to straight edge music, which is music that is anti-drug, anti-abortion and many good life style choices, can such music be considered haram? or is it just the instruments?

If it is only male a capella, then I don't think it would be considered the haram type of music if the content is not haram. If instruments are involved (with the exception of the frame-drum, perhaps), then it would be haram regardless of content.

My thing is I don't prescribe to A school of islam, more or less salafi with more humanitarian views. I don't have any non-muslim friends anymore, and don't converse with only but 2 of my family matters more for their sake than mine, so I don't really have a basis to judge except sahih hadith basically; and the quran.

Assalaamu Alaykum

According to the Hanafi school of jurisprudence every form of music is haram if it has any involvement with musical instruments. This is with the exception of the duff (a specific type of drum) which also has a number of conditions of when it can be played and who by - not on your average playlist!

Hope this helps.

Allah Knows Best.
