Salam Aleykum,
If you don't mind let me try giving this a shot: Abu Huraira (ra) narrated: The Prophet SAWS told the companions: "You are in a time where if you leave 1/10th of the things you are ordered to do by Allah then you shall perish, then there will come a time that when one of you will do 1/10th of the things which he is ordered to do he shall be saved." and this is Sahih. |

Salam Aleykum, Thankyou brother. Know i would like to know... what does this "things" imply? i suppose it cannot be deen, as we have to follow complete deen. 1/10 of deen does not lead us to success. To which part of deen does this "thing" apply? |

A much clearer and much stronger version of the Hadith is narrated by Abu Dharr al-Ghafari (ra):
إنكم اليوم في زمان كثير علماؤه ، قليل خطباؤه ، من ترك عشر ما يعرف فقد هوى ، و يأتي من بعد زمان كثير خطباؤه ، قليل علماؤه ، من استمسك بعشر ما يعرف فقد نجا He SAWS said to his companions: "Today you are in a time of many 'Ulema(Scholars) and few Khutaba(Speakers), he who leaves 1/10th of what he knows shall perish, there shall come a time when there will be many Khutaba and few 'Ulema, he who holds on to 1/10th of what he knows will be saved." It is also narrated by a third chain with a Mursal hadith from al-Hassan (ra) through Mu'awiyah (ra). I understand the Hadith as such: -Those who live in the same time as the Prophet SAWS shall be judged more strictly on the day of judgement as they met him PBUH and they learned directly from him and his companions (raa). -Those who live today in the age of Fitnah and Ignorance, Allah will have mercy on them as long as they hold on to as much as they can from this religion. -In the old days there was much more knowledge while today the true scholars are rare and there are many ignorants and employees of the government who pose as scholars but they have no real knowledge. -The Hadith does not belittle those who are talented speakers and those who work in the field of Da'awah but as the Quranic verse states: Say, "This is my way; I invite to Allah with insight, I and those who follow me. And exalted is Allah; and I am not of those who associate others with Him." (12:108) So invite to the way of Allah with knowledge and insight because if you are ignorant about the religion you will do more harm than good and you might push people away from Islam rather than convert them to it. Assalamu Alaikum
The reply by our respected Amir http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/show...l=1#post241497 Originally Posted by Talib84 Assalamu Alaikum Someone showed me this hadith and I would appreciate if someone can provide a commentary or explanation of the hadith insha Allah Abu Huraiyra radiaAllahu anhu reported Allah's Messenger Sal Alllahu alaihi wasallam saying: (You are living) in a blessed age that he who abandons even 1/10 of what he is prescribed, courts destruction, after this there will come a time when he who observes 1/10 of what is now prescribed will be saved." (Tirmidhi) The hadith clearly does not refer to Fard or wajib acs of worship, as one who leaves them out courts destruction, regardless of the age he lives in. The hadith applies to the responsibility of inviting towards good and forbidding from evil. Due to the strong levels of Iman and the conducive dini enviroment of the time of the Sahabah , had they neglected even part of this responsibility, they would have been destroyed. On the other hand, in times of evil and misconduct, fulfilling a portion of this responsibility would be sufficient to save one. If I am not mistaken, similar commentary is mentioned in al-Mirqat of Mulla Ali al-Qari. And Allah Ta'ala knows best |
