Evading tax is breaking the law of the land you live in, cheating and making muslims look like parasites and is thus haram.
Avoiding tax by legal methods e.g. loopholes is completely legal though.

Many of uses of the tax money are to pay for the road (building, maintenance) that you use every day, public transportation (?), paying the workers who sweep the streets (?) and other legitimate purposes, not just 100% war. Make niyyah that when paying the tax, you pay for this so that 100% of your money :insha: will be goes towards those funds.

I do undestand muslims are not supposed to cheat or involve in deception but what if muslims come to know the tax money is being used to kill the muslims in our lands as majority of western countries have joined hands in this with the America be it Afghanistan, Iraq and so on. Now are the muslims allowed to pay tax there as if sponsoring the killing of muslims? What is the ruling?

Agree, but after working hard the government wants to take as much as they can get there hands on...
Isn't that a crime in itself?
Im actually talking about those that have a good cash in hand job and on top of that rake in government money.

make niyyah that your money goes to other thing than war.

Ulama also allow people to work at supermarket as a cashier that sells alcoholic beverages and other halal things.

Seriously though, how many people in Muslim countries do you think pay tax... Ever wondered why the infrastucture of the country then is non existant (I Remember when a resolution was passed in Pakistan to tax wealthy land owners, the result was days of civil unrest and many tryes were burnt).
In order to establish a functioning state and social welfare system you need a healthy level of tax. Where the westerners have gone wrong is that they have wasted too much on departments that are of no use to anyone (and services that no one uses). Europe is perhaps the highly taxed place in the world but a lot goes to waste, along with the US. Problem with the US is though you dont get much back in return, (no healthcare, no assistance in bringing up kids). Personally I believe that somewhere like the UK has it spot on regarding tax collection, i.e the upper middle class pay the most, whilst the lowest earners pay less (another question may arise here as to how fair is that on the hard working middle class and vice verca?)

We had this discussion before already on SF, but it would be nice to know what our respected scholars on board think about this. But I guess they fear to get e-butchered, if they take a stance on either sides.

if you are going to use the roads, schools, hospitals, services, welfare that are funded by Taxes. then it would be honest to pay your own share. otherwise, you are stealing.

but if you believe it is haram (that it may go to unislamic things), then you should do Hijrah to a Muslim country rather than stay there as a crook.

"Truly Allah guides not one who transgresses and lies" (Surah 40:28). Dodging taxes in such a way is lying. Taqiyya (lying) is only permissable during Jihad or means of survival.

Sorry brother.
In my case I run a small business, I don't lie to the government but spend any monies that would be taxed on things so they can't get their hands on it.
Is this haram?

this is disturbing. by living in a country you have made a contract to obey its laws and customs, and to go against those laws would be breaking a contract and is haram. even if it is darul harb.

not to mention cheating, stealing, and giving muslims an even worse name if that was possible. We aren't shia, we are supposed to be honourable shining examples everyone wants to be like.

start acting like one.

Q: Is it a sin to conceal one's actual income to the government to avoid paying exorbitant taxes?
A: It is not a sin to conceal your proper income. However, one must avoid all such actions which bring disgrace upon one. Rasulullah (Sallallaahu
?layhi Wasallam) said, 'It is not proper for a believer to disgrace himself.
' (Tirmidhi)

Can a Muslim even live there - in the first place - if the country is classed as darul harb?

umar bhai

im not too sure, my memory is hazy..... i dont think muslims can live there but they can travel there to trade or dawah or jihad of course. but not live there as citizens unless they cannot help it.

input from the SF ulama would be good.

Yes, that's the same that I remember according to the little I've read on the argument.
And that was my point: if UK was to be classified as darul harb, we shouldn't have the time to discuss about taxes and benefits, we should all leave it unless some other work needs to be done!

input from the SF ulama would be good.
Indeed, I'd pay for that!
