It related that 'Umar ibn Abi Salama, the son of Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "One day I ate some food with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. I began to eat from all sides of the plate and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, told me, 'Eat from what is in front of you.'"

Sorry bro, i read the question wrong.

Answer to his question, insha'allah this time correctly. Fatwa talks about muslims who are kafr from prayer neglection. None the less, it should remove any doubts when eating from the plates of ones family

There are no restrictions when eating using the same utensils as a mahram or even a non-mahram person. The only restrictions that are in place are with regards to eating with the same utensils that are used by non-Muslims and that is that they should be washed before use.

Shaykh munajid of islamqa doesn't base his fatwas on fiqh according to madhabs: http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/show...l=1#post250893
Also he also says deobandis are going against the sunnah: http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/show...folds-of-Islam

So its better to stay away from that site. Actually islamqa links are blocked in this forum. But now they have added a different extension i think.

Does a person have to follow a madhab? His answers are backed up my quran and hadith, how can they be wrong?

Shaykh Munajjid's answers are not necessarily wrong per se. The denizens of this site could not really find a fiqh question and say 'this opinion is 100% wrong,' if they wish to allow for the validity of the answers within the other mad'habs to be correct. His foundation is in the Hanbali mad'hab, departing from Ibn Qudama's view for Ibn Taymiyyah's mostly, and sometimes taking the ruling from another mad'hab if he believes their reasoning for the explanation of one hadith or another is more sound. He refers most often to al-Mughni, Fath al-Bari, Sharh Saheeh Muslim. Two of those books are not even Hanbali.

The denizens of this site would say his answers involving creedal issues (rejection of Sufism as it exists today, Athari creed, et cetera) would be wrong- and they are wrong from a Maturidi perspective, but whether the Maturidi perspective is the correct one or not should be evaluated by individuals. After all, in Maturidism the muqallid in aqeedah is a kaafir or transgressor, so clearly each individual should take a long close look at the opposing claims of each side and come to a conclusion themselves.

There is a methodology (usool) to derive Fatwas from Quran and hadith. Not everyone can derive rulings by just quoting the text. Fiqh is a very complicated matter. This is not my own opinion. Look what Maulana Abuhajira posted about the link of islamqa:

http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/show...l=1#post250893
Authenticity in Fiqh is not restricted to presentation of the Hadith as a proof, rather presenting the understanding of that hadith from the sahaba, tabi'i etc. Most of Salafi rulings are from Zahir of the texts which can be wrong at times.

I do not think that the brother meant unauthentic as in using fabrications..rather unauthentic as in the deductions being contrary to the authentically established opinions within Fiqh. (at times i.e)
