Default New translation of the Ihya Ulum al Din by Mohammad Mahdi al-Sharif
Asalamu Alaikum,
I want to order this, but was wondering if anyone here has read it. If so, is the English any good in it. Please advise when possible.

Wasalam,
Labid

Salam alaikum

The version of Fons Vitae will take a long time till the entire Iyha ulum ud din will be ready.
If you want Ihya ulum id din as soon as possible, you should look if the version from Darul Kutub al Imiyah is good.

Wa salam

Asalamu Alaikum,
I forgot I had written this thread. Jazakallah for the responses. Since writing it, I had written to Fons Vitae concerning this in November and they told me that the Ihya complete translation in 4 volumes would be available at the "first quarter of the year 2012" insha'Allah.

There are good partial translations of the Ihya on Ghazali dot org- I think the translation of 'Disciplining the Soul' is as good as TJ Winter's. ITS's translations are good, but they cost an arm and a leg, and I read sample pages from this 'new' translation you speak of and it is really not very good at all. The english has no elegance or eloquence.

Muhtar Holland's translations were always fastidiously eloquent; I would wait for them if you have patience.
