Default Not being part of a sect
hoping this post reaches everyone in the best of health and imaan, ameen!

So, randomly doing my research as I do on the Middle East (I hope to move there in the next few years, insha'Allah - I'm interested in Oman, if anyone wants to give me some information on there? ), I found out that Oman is the only Muslim country with an Ibadhi-sect majority, followed by Sunni Islam.

I've read before that there are plenty of arguments against even having any sects at all. Here are a few ayat from the Qur'an that people who don't attribute themselves with a sect use for their argument:

“And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves” [3:103]

“As for those who divide Their religion and break up into sects, thou hast no part in them in the least: Their affair is with Allah: He will in the end tell them the truth of all that they did.” [6:159]

"O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and those charged with authority among you. If ye differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe in Allah and the Last Day: That is best, and most suitable for final determination." [4:59]

“Who is better in speech than one who calls (men) to Allah, works righteousness, and says, "I am of those who bow in Islam?" [41:33]

"Be united by holding onto God's Covenant, and do not be divided" [8:46]

I am a Sunni Muslim, and although they have a fair argument regarding the sects, I believe in the Sunni viewpoints on Islam, and the line of caliphs after Muhammad

What are your views on this?

ALSO, a little extra: what are your views on Sunni Muslims praying in a Shi'a mosque, and so forth? Most people I've spoken to have done this, and have had no problems.

Salam u alaikum Sister,

As Followers of our beloved Prophet Mohammad S.W and the book of Allah we do not believe in dividing muslims into sects, rather we want muslims to hold on together with the teachings of our prophet and Quran. But its people who want to seperate themselves and they divide themselves, so yes Islam , Quran and the prophet S.W instructs us to hold on to Haq( the truth) and do not seperate yourself away from it, but alas after the Prophet , from the muslims rose people who decided to seperate themselves away from the path and formed or carved their own way. So for you and me the message of Quran is to hold on to what the prophet brought and what his companions were on, and not seperate ourselves from those teachings. And distance ourselves from those who made themselves seperated or divided themselves from the main path.

As comes in one of the tradtion in hadeeth close to the meaning that on the day of judgement when muslims will flock and run towards the prophet S.W, some would be stopped by the angels and the prophet S.W will ask why are they not being let to come close to me, and the angels will reply close to the meaning that they are not amongst your followers they changed the religion after you, basically carved their own ways and added or rejected things in the real teachings. And Allah knows best.

Wasalam

The Omanis are quite pious as a whole compared to others from the Gulf. Has anyway checked whether they still retain aspects that make them a seperate sect from Muslims or is it just today a tolerable difference of opinion?
