I was thinking about food, diet etc. I had some discussions with people who are regular in their tahajud (May ALLAH make us all regular) Mashallah and there seems to be a common factor. The people eat very little at night and they leave the stomach empty for a few hours at least before going sleep. This reminds me of something Shaykh Nuh keller once mentioned. He said breakfast, lunch and dinner is a big problem for america. i.e. the fact that westerners have 3 meals. What experience do fellow SF members have in this regard?

I think Muslims who eat less are more disciplined and because of that discipline they’re able to forsake their warm cozy beds for tahjjud. Conversely, those of us who overeat have weak discipline and little control over our nufus. That’s why I don’t like it when i see chubby Imaams or scholars and it’s hard for me to trust what they’re saying. It could be just my internal ugliness that I’m projecting on to them but I seriously do have a hard time listening to overweight Imams or Muslim speakers. ..

So its better not to judge fat people blindly as 'over eaters'. No doubt some of them are certainly overeating but not all. On the other hand some people do not gain weight much even if they over eat. Its a fact. As for the topic. My food intake is very erratic, sometimes I eat a lot, sometimes not much, but the weakness for food is definitely there. But I have a bit of high metabolism so I stay skinny. I m very particular about 3 meals a day, Its difficult for me if i miss it. |

As-salamu ´alaykum Sidi,
As you know the sunnah is to settle for only a few morsels of food. We often speak of filling one third with food, one third with water, and leaving a a third empty. But we often forget that this is the maximum, and that to eat and drink even less is what is preferred according to the Hadith. Our Mashayikh have always given us the following reminder: "If you eat a lot, you drink alot. If you drink a lot, you sleep a lot. If you sleep a lot you are neglecting (missing out on) the Dhikr of Allah." As you know, this requires discipline, which comes with practice and patience. Remember to always (which I am sure you do) recite the sunnah adkhar before sleeping and to sleep on your right. If possible, go to sleep straight after Isha. wa'Llahu a'lam |

![]() Eat two times a day, especially since we are in a weak state: morning after ishraq and at night right after/before maghrib. If you get hungry in between, eat fruit. Here's an article on that: http://www.healthymuslim.com/article...t-properly.cfm Go to sleep after praying `isha. Become disciplined, unlike me, and then have a positive affect on those around you ![]() |
