Since I found out that it isn't compulsary to read sunnah or nafl, I only read Farz namaz...But I heard that I cant read ONLY 2 farz for fajr and 3farz for maghrib because these are too short. The minimum is 4 rakat namaz. Is this true? Yes it's true that only the fardh prayers are compulsory, but if you are in the habit of praying sunnah and nafl prayers then you shouldn't leave these prayers. If we were to only follow the fardh things in Islam, we lose the true beauty and the spirit of Islam. Husbands could behave like tyrants towards their wives, women could cause family problems by demanding living arrangements and causing grief to a poor husband, prayers would be 30 seconds long, nobody would recite qur'an and there would be no sense of brotherhood! And we would be abandoning Allah's commandment to follow the way of the Prophet (saw). Doing the fardh excuses you from sin, but it doesn't gain you extra rewards as well-intentioned sunnah and nafl would do, and we should be striving to try to please Allah and gain as much reward as possible to prepare for the hereafter. "My servant draws near to Me by nothing dearer to Me than that which I have established as a duty for him. And My servant does not cease to approach Me through supererogatory acts until I love him. And when I love him, I become his hearing with which he hears, his sight with which he sees, his hand with which he grasps, and his foot with which he walks. And if he asks Me [for something], I give it to him. If he seeks refuge with Me, I place him under My protection. In nothing do I hesitate so much as I hesitate [to take] the soul of a believer. He has a horror of death, and I have a horror of hurting him” [Bukhari] Wallahu a'lam |

![]() Sister you must heed the advice above to go back to praying sunnah and nafl and well as fard, insha'allah. Remember that there is a principle in Islam that we are not permitted to abandon an act of worhsip that is part of our established routine. So, yes, fard is the absolute minimum to avoid His punishment, but by sincerely offering sunnah and nafl you will find yourself being drawn closer to Allah subhana wa ta'alaa. Do not think in terms of the minimum, think in terms of providing Allah subhana wa ta'alaa with maximum pleasure. After all, He has provided us with everything and He has created us to serve and worship Him. As a reminder the number of sunnah and nafl rakat are as follows (Hanafi). Fajr = Two rakat Sunnat Mukaddah then two rakat Fard Zuhr = Four rakat Sunnat Mukaddah then four rakat Fard then two rakat sunnat Mukaddah Asr = Four rakat sunnat ghair mukaddah then Four rakat Fard; (four rakat Sunnate Ghair mokadda befor this is optional) Maghrib = Three rakat Fard then two rakat Sunnat Mukaddah Isha = Four rakat Sunnah Muakkadah then Four rakat Fard then two rakat sunnat mukkadah. Salah should be our highest priority and we must all make the time to offer our salah in full insha'allah. Allah subhana wa ta'alaa has so much love to give and those that submit to His will through regular and earnest salah will surely have an easier time on the Day of Judgement. |

Can I ask what is the difference between Sunnat Mukaddah and Sunnat Ghair Mukadda?
I know the Sunnah Ghair Mukadda are optional whereas the Sunnat Mukkaddah one must read, but I never knew exactly why? Isha = Four rakat Sunnah Muakkadah then Four rakat Fard then two rakat sunnat mukkadah. |

Can I ask what is the difference between Sunnat Mukaddah and Sunnat Ghair Mukadda? ![]() From my limited knowledge. sunnah muakkadah are sunnahs that Rasoolullah ![]() ![]() ![]() Also, to your response to the sister: no, in reality, the "sunnah" before the four faraaidh of Isha are NOT sunnah (neither sunnah muakkadah nor sunnah ghair muakkadah). They are mustahab. |

Since I found out that it isn't compulsary to read sunnah or nafl, I only read Farz namaz...But I heard that I cant read ONLY 2 farz for fajr and 3farz for maghrib because these are too short. The minimum is 4 rakat namaz. Is this true? Ideally, after wudhu you should offer 2 rakaat nafil. Then entering masjid offer 2 rakaat nafil before sitting down. Then offer the sunnah salaah. Then offer the fardh and then finish off whatever remaining sunnah/nafil there are. If a patient at the hospital is under contact precaution for some infectious disease, or if patient is going for surgery, usually there are several "buffer zones", several precautions staff and visitors have to take before going in. At one point they have to stop and remove jewelry/food items etc. Then at another point they have to put on scrubs or some sort of mask and gown etc. These all act as buffers, precautionary methods with the main objective to protect the patient from harm. Same is for salaah. In order to protect the obligatory prayer from being damaged, we have to put these "buffers" of nafil/sunnah around the obligatory to keep it well protected from anything that will cause harm to it. As far as the legality you will have to ask ulama ikram. |

Clarification:
http://askimam.org/fatwa/fatwa.php?a...98e0f613c05972 NAQSH-E-QADAM NABI KE HAIN JANNAT KE RASTE ALLAH SE MILATE HAIN SUNNAT KE RASTE concept-7_28.gif We Should Therefore Try Our Atmost Best To Carry Out The Sunnats And Not Try To Find Excuses To Miss A Sunnat. Whether It Is Fardh Or Not, A Sunnat Is A Sunnat And Therfore We Should Try Our Best To Carry Out The Action And Not BeLittle It |
