This is also why the second Caliph of Islam, `Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), is reported by al-Bukhari to have made a supplication (du`a) that encompassed both of those virtues when he said: “Oh Allah, make me a martyr in your path, and grant me a death in the city of your Prophet.” [al-Bukhari, Sahih]

There was one young person(in gujarat) who used to do this dua(of Umer rz), Its so happened that he went their for Umrah (i think) and was praying namaz in madina(I think Nafl, don't remember well). The Water tank fall on him and he died and gain the status of martyr.

I try to do this dua after every salah. I think I read in his biography that mawlana Zakariyyah Kandhalawi used to make this dua all the time, and that it was indeed accepted from him.
