Assalamu Alaykum Brothers,
With all due respect, and as reminder to myself, I think we should refrain from comparing reciters like that. As far as I know, it is not a form of adab. What makes the recitors sound nice, is the beauty of the Qur'an itself (more than anything), and they are all reciting the word of Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala) after all. If any comparison has to be made, it should be on the correctness of the recitation, in terms of Tajweed.... and as far as I know, most people who make judgments of such a nature are void of this science themselves. A Qari is not "better" just because he makes more harmonics. A Qari is "better" if his ilm al-Tajweed is better. As far as I know, Shaykh Mahmud Khalil Husari is regarded by many as the best recitor of the present era. He held the title of 'Shaykh al-Maqâri', and his opinions were frequently solicited and quoted by the media (especially in Egypt). Unlike many of the other famous Qurra, he was also a well-known religious scholar and author of many books on various aspects of the Qur'ân. Amongst the more contemporary recitors, Shaykh Ali Al-Hothaify, Shaykh AbuBakr As-Shatery and Shaykh Muhammad Jibreel are also known for the correctness of their recitation. In any case, please forgive me if I have offended any one as it was not my intention. And Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala) knows best. |
