Salam brothers and sisters.
"I m leaving among you something which is very important and should be followed, you will not go astray if you get hold of it after I am gone, one part of it being more important than the other: Allah's Book, which is a rope stretched from Heaven to Earth, and my close relatives, who belong to my household. These two will not separate from one another till they come down to the reservoir, so consider how you act regarding them after my departure." this is in series of sahih hadiths volume 4 by Al baani . isn't this the right hadith? i hear some of the imams saying 'Im leaving among you something which is very important and should be followed, you will not go astray if you get hold of it after I am gone, one part of it being more important than the other: Allah's Book, which is a rope stretched from Heaven to Earth, and my sunnah ? can somebody find me the hadith in our books for hadith al Thaqalayn where it says book of allah and my sunnah? jazakallah khare brothers and sisters |

al-Salamu 'Aleykum,
Hadith al-Thaqalayn has a couple of different texts which may differ greatly at times, the authentic origin of the narration is in Sahih Muslim and it goes like this: Zaid ibn Arqam (ra) narrated: The Prophet PBUH stood once in a water called Khum between Mecca and Madinah so he praised Allah and thanked him and he started giving advice and wisdom, he said: O people I am but a HUMAN and soon Allah's Messenger (Angel of death) will come to me and I will answer him, And I have left with you two Wieghty things The first one being the Book of Allah, In It Is the Light and Guidance So Hold On To The Book of Allah and never let go of it. So he encouraged them to hold on to the book of Allah then he said: And My AhlulBayt, By Allah I remind you of My AhlulBayt, By Allah I remind you of My AhlulBayt, By Allah I remind you of my AhlulBayt. |

There is a weaker vesrsion saying "Book of Allah and my Sunnah" but what is correct is the one I posted above, if you need narrations about the importance of Sunnah I can post a few for you:
Anas ibn Malik (ra) narrated that the Prophet SAWS said: فمن رغب عن سنتي فليس مني "He who abandons my Sunnah then he is not from me." He also narrated that SAWS said: ذلك من سنتي ومن أحب سنتي فقد أحبني ومن أحبني كان معي في الجنة "That is from my Sunnah, he who loves my Sunnah then he loves me, he who loves me will be with me in Jannah." Bilal bin al-Harith al-Mazni (ra) narrated: من أحيا سنة من سنتي قد أميتت بعدي ، فإن له من الأجر مثل من عمل بها من الناس لا ينقص ذلك من أجورهم "He who revives one of my Sunnahs after it was abandoned after my death, he will get like the reward of all those who follow it and it will not decrease them." 'Amro ibn 'Awf (ra) narrated that he SAWS said: فطوبى للغرباء الذين يصلحون ما أفسد الناس من بعدي من سنتي "Glad tidings be to the strangers who restore what the people corrupted from my Sunnah after I die." al-'Irbad (ra) narrated from him SAWS: من يعش منكم فسيرى اختلافا كثيرا، فعليكم بما عرفتم من سنتي، وسنة الخلفاء الراشدين المهديين "He of you who shall live after me will see great difference, so follow what you know from my Sunnah and that of the rightly guided Caliphs." |
