As we see newspapers today are filled with filth and sometimes vulgar photos/pictures. what is the best way to keep ourselves updated about current affaris ?

if you must read news, instead of reading newspapers, read news websites with the images disabled in your browser. (this can be done easily in opera and firefox) that way you will have only the text. If you are using linux, use a text mode browser like "links".

Also, there are some browser extensions available that allow you to just read the text on a webpage if it recognizes that the text is an article. This functionality is built into Safari now, I believe.
