Salaam.
I let her listen a great lecture by Mohammad Elshinawy called to veil or not to veil. Mashallah it's a very touching lecture and his approach is very warming, she watched this and cried out of feeling bad for not wearing hijab...
If anyone hasn't watched it please do inshallah:

Let me add a few precious cents to this thread. I think women generally DO NOT like sermons given specifically to them by their knowledgeable husbands. Especially if they're young! alot of people on this forum advise others to start doing "ta'leem" at home when they have have a problem with their wives. I don't know how this can work. Is the guy supposed to take a kitaab, sit on the couch and start reading loud? even if he does... Is the wife going to sit down and listen him? rather play the CD's (lectures) of other scholars/aalims in the house/car etc. And listen to them yourself, that way your wife insha-Allah will also get to hear them and in all probability it will have a greater effect on her than her husbands sermons.

Taleem is the easiest method to bring deen into ur home. If one is not able to make his wife listen to taleem, then i think its a serious issue which needs to be sorted.
And lemme tell u the ipod lectures and taleem can never be equal. Listening to lectures on cd players while doing some other work is kinda disrespect to the lectures and their is no Nehj-e-nabwi in the cd player lectures. The virtues of dhikr are regarding to taleem not the one listening to cd players.
"maulana saad (d.b) once said before a lecture that Allah's angels surround the gathering present, they dont surround the places where the voice reaches."
The ilm obtained by listening to lectures on cd players hardely transforms into ilm-e-nafia.
Taleem is the best n the easiet solution.

what sh.saad metioned is more related to the gathering of the masjid. sitting together or hearing lectures alone , both are different form of learning, but sitting together is more approcble in masjid. I know plenty of brothers who are changed via hearing lectures only.

What i meant is that Angels surround the gatherings where taleem is done whether it be home or masjid and this hadith is not applicable to hearing lectures on cd players, though i agree many people have changed thru lectures..its just taleem can never be replaced by cd players n that was my point.
