Default Shafi'i position on the Tawb(long garment) touching the ground.
al-Salamu 'Alykum,

I want to know the Shafi'i position(s) on this matter:

The Thawb or any garment worn by men may be too low to the extent that if you take your shoes off while entering the masjid it may start touching the floor of the mosque, what is the ruling for this in the Madhab? (it doesn't touch the floor outside the mosque when u have ur shoes on so it's not dirty)

I looked up Reliance of a Traveller. Its saw only about the Ankles. Your query needs a more specific answer i guess. Perhaps some one with more knowledge can help

Wa Alaykum As-Salam brother,

Anything below the ankle is believed to be makruh if done without pride, and haram if done with pride.

Jazakallah Khayran, So I guess our position is based on the explanation that some rich tribal leaders used to wear long robes as a sign of pride and power which is why it is Makruh.
