Default Intentions when praying Salah
Asalamu Alaykum.

when we pray Salah, do we require to say the intentions?

Some Sheikh from Huda says it is a biddah. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UtGoxTtRu8

There are two different things: Lafazh and Niyyat. What he meant (I just glided through the video, not listening attentively) was the lafazh (the utterance of the intention loudly) before prayer, which is usually done by the followers of Shafi'i. The saying of the "intention" out loud was done to firm the intention in the heart because for us (Shafi'i) we have to do intention, Allahu akbar, and takbir at the same time.

If you are Hanafi, follow what Hanafi ustadh told you. Wallahu a'lam.

Wa laikum assalam wa rahmatUllahi wa barakathuhu,

as far as i know brother, intention is supposed to be in the heart and not said allowed.
I cant seem to find any fatwas at the moment so insha'Allah ill try looking for them in a bit.
Allah Subhanhu Wa Tha'ala knows best.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatUllahi wa barakathuhu

Intention is of-course in the heart n no where it is said that it should be said verbally, but fuqaha recommend to utter it so as to be sure of it for some people fall in the whisperings whether they intended or not.

All answers are great. I would like to ask a question abou folding hands during salat. According to Sunan Abu Dawud 755, 756, 757 there are two versions of folding hands. Above the navel or below the navel. If one is folding hads below the navel is he comitting a sin. Thank you and Jazak Allah Khair.

Hanafi madhab tells males to fold hans beowe navel, I don't see the sin.

Alright, so you must make intentions, but in your heart?
