Default Brands to ban
Assalamualaikum Warehmatullahi Wabarakaatuhu

Hope everyone is doing well.

Some friends were planning to buy some branded shoes. Before buying, they wanted to know which brand is the best. They came across an article stating that Nike products are not allowed in Islam. So, now, the wanted to investigate which other brands goods are Muslims not allowed to purchase. They came across this link stating some companies : http://www.turntoislam.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49424 . But they, and even I, are not sure if Muslims should really ban all those companies.

I would appreciate it if the members here could help and give out a list of the brands from which Muslims are not supposed to buy. Even it be from what you have heard or what you practice not to buy. Insha-Allah it will be beneficial to everyone. It may be anything - shoes, clothes, food, drinks, perfumes, etc. Or it would save time if someone can give a link where such a list already exists.

IF possible, kindly give the reasons along with the brand name.

Jazak-Allah khair for reading and trying to help.

Thank you

Brothers, why aren't you answering here?

I found the following list from : http://www.inminds.com/boycott-israel.html . I do not know how true it is. So, I am posting the names of the companies here.

AOL Time Warner
Apax Partners & Co Ltd
Coca-Cola
Danone
Delta Galil
Disney
Estée Lauder
IBM
Johnson & Johnson
Kimberly-Clark
Lewis Trust Group Ltd
L'Oreal
Marks & Spencer
Nestle
News Corporation
Nokia
Revlon
Sara Lee
Selfridges
The Limited Inc
Home Depot
Intel
Starbucks
Timberland
McDonald's
Arsenal FC

I wanted to know your thoughts on it. You can go to the website, and click on each brand to see why they ask us not to buy from them. Even Intel is on there.

Would like to know the SF members thoughts on this.

Thank you

It may not matter here but I think that inminds is a Shia website.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatUllahi wa barakathuhu

I also avoid (insha'Allah) nike because of its support for child labor.. no matter what the excuse (" oh at least we give them jobs blah blah " subhan'Allah looking at pictures of 4-5 year old children who are skin and bones(hardly any skin) who lok so unhealthy yet working so hard for a meager few bucks.. child labor is disgusting and soo heartbreaking may Allah Subhanhu Wa Tha'ala guide us and keep us one the straight path ameen )
and i think some islamic scholars remind us to boycott nike, because nike once created some sneakers that looked like it said Allah in flames or something(astaghfirUllah) or something that was offensive to Islam.

Mostly i stick to the list on inminds ..reason i try to avoid such products is because of their support of the apartehid israel.
oterh brands that supports israeal include ;
clinique ..
express(america)
river island (uk)
* i know to boycott is ones choice, but when i watch videos of atrocities and murders happining to Palestin ..its a terrible feeling. For example I remember a picture of a Palestinian baby with bullets in its tummy and trhoughout the body ..insha'Allah heres the link:

http://boycottjohnson.blogspot.com/2...n-johnson.html

things like that remind me of how oppressed our ummah is , boycotting might be a small thing but insha'Allah the rewards will be good and immense.

Many shoes contain pig leather. Sometimes hard to recognize.

As harsh as it may seem, that's business - you manufacturer a product at the lowest possible price & then try to retail at the highest...

Where would these children work, if it was not in the circumstances you mention? How would the whole family survive?

Where are we Muslims supposed to stop with boycotting? For what real reasons are we even proposing boycotting these companies, to start with?

[QUOTE=Haq Chaar Yaar;696706]

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatUllahi wa barakathuhu,

AstaghfirUllah i apologize for my previous post, insha'Allah to anyone who read it please do pardon me , it was completely uncalled for.

Anyway its just a personal belief that nike has (in a sense) the power to stop sweat shops and tehy dont in order to secure their business motives, but thats what cheezes me off like crazy. The fact that had they had factories in areas apart from the third world country they would ( i think anyway) definietly give fair wages.

but they dont with the poor, disabled, suffering impoverished people because nike knows it can get away with it ..

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatUllahi wa barakathuhu

i apologized ( i sincerely mean it) to you and anyone else who read it so insha'Allah no hard feelings(please) and im forgiven by all who were offended (even if in the slightest)

sometimes i blow steam...really fast and rather unnecessarily ....astaghfirUllah....and then i realize it ..and i start feeling the guilt ..although im really really really hate sweatshops, im sorry the way i posted was completely out of line

May Allah Subhanhu Wa Tha'ala protect us .Ameen
