I was hoping for some advice regarding hope and fear of Allah

I commited sins which i have fear of and have repented but have no idea if my repentance has been accepted. Now sometimes the thought of my repentance not being accepted makes me feel sad and extremely down. Would it be unwise for me to assume that due to the immense mercy of Allah my repentance has been accepted and i can concentrate on doing good deeds?

Also i feel shame advising others to be more islamic. I feel like a hypocrite when i myself commited sins at their age, some of which they would be aware of.

Any advice?

You are not alone, i too feel the same things you feel.

1. About doubt if our repentance has been accepted or not.

There is no way of knowing it. My personal understanding is,
We shouldn't assume Allah will not forgive, That is belittling Allah's infinite Mercy.
Neither should we assume the our sins are already forgiven, that would be arrogance.

Actually this state of uncertainty will be the motivation and drive for us to do more taubah and ibadah.

The companion of Rasoolullah ,
Ibn Mas'ud (ra) says: "A believer treats a sin as if it is a mountain over his head that may fall on him any moment. Whereas a regular violator looks at them as a fly that perked on his nose and he waived it away with his hand."

For the best dua for forgiveness: http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/show...-and-Magrib%29

2. The feeling like a hypocrite.

"No one fears hypocrisy but a believer and
no one feels safe from it but a hypocrite."

So feeling safe from hypocrisy itself is a sign of hypocrisy.

But also one has to follow oneself what one advice others. Or else that will be hypocrisy too.

But its our duty to promote good deeds also. Basically we have to strike a balance. May Allah save us from Nifaaq. ameen.

Rasulullah (Sallallaahu 'alayhi waSallam) said,
"One who repents from sin is like one who has no sin."

Brother, be positive, like you said, Allah swt is All merciful, not like a mercy we humans understand, you could sin again and agian and again, and aslong as you came back to Allah swt, he would forgive you !

And remember :
I am to my Slave as he thinks of me.' - bukhari

So if you truly believe that Allah swt is the all merciful, he will be so towards you. But If you give human charecteristics to Allah swt , The Lord of the universe, by thinking, how could He swt forgive me for such big sins, then sadly, it'll probably be so...

'All the children of Adam make mistakes, and the best of them are those who repent.' At tirmidhi

Like u titled the post bro, you gotta get a balance: 1) dont belittle your sins 2) but remember that allah swt IS the most merciful!

These are tricks by the damned shaytan. Insh'Allah you are a good believer. And the sign of your repentance being accepted or not is the fact that you don't fall into the same sin as often and eventually you won't do that sin again. However, by no way this means that you stop asking for forgiveness. The Prophet(saw) used to do "istigfar" 70 times a day.

And the way of the ulema is that, whenever the shaytan reminds you of a sin you've committed, say "Astagfirullah Al Azim" until the thought goes away.

Finally, just as a thief won't enter an empty house to rob it, the shaytan doesn't come to an empty heart to cause fitnah in it. Always be in a state of hope and fear, and Insh'Allah we will all have husni khatm! Ameen.
