 The miswak in public
Salaamun alaykum
I have seen some brothers use the miswak in public, e.g. in college or work. Why do people do this? It's bad akhlaq and makes us look bad. Imagine if someone brushed their teeth in public. |

because they are moron, imbacile and creten and wants to prove they are more relegious then anyonelse. I would actually profile them and put them in prison as terrorist. Terrorising commonsense and sensibilities.

Terrorising commonsense and sensibilities. in the west people look at those walking around with a kurtah on as foward men coz they see it as a night robe, must ppl be locked up now for wearing a kurtah in public? |

Salaamun alaykum  They were, in their opinion, trying their best to emulate sunnah of the Prophet  . Just show them or let them know the proper way of following the sunnah of the Prophet and  they will listen and change their habit.On a side note, if a brother made a light joke (dark humor?) with a reply, there's no need to roll it further. Just let the comment end there.

Btw to Nomadic: just abt everyday anyone in a city can spot ppl doing ALL sorts of insane things, right? -digging one's nose -scratching .... -sneezing in a crowded train so loudly as if 10 pounds of dynamite blew up in his nose -spitting right left centre and back based on your self-concocted notion of who deserves prison, aren't those mentioned above MORE deserving of prison??? Soon your entire town would be an open-air prison, if ppl were unfortunate enough to be living under you as their ruler (I really pity them...). Thank goodness even the filthy Crusaders have not begun arresting Misswak-wielders yet....but it seems your hatred and malice is ONLY directed towards the Miswak-holders. didnt see you imprisoning the rest... It really betrays what your heart conceals... Oops just noticed you are banned... and we are safe from your foul tongue. |

some people do miswaak becaue they like it in addition to it being sunnah, so three swipes advice is not going to work for them...

actually its not anything wrong to do miswaak in public. we don't need to worry about what image the kuffaar are getting of us, unless its really something bad. whatever there is scope for in the shariah, its fine. they (the kuffaar) are not ashamed of the many shameless things they do in public i.e walking around half naked, getting drunk and doing the most disgusting and heinous deeds all over the place, so why must we muslims be ashamed of doing a great sunnah (miswaak) in public?

what about the wuzukhana (place for ablution) of the masjid, three swipes there too?....people should be concentrating on their wuzu rather than looking at what the guy next to them is doing

Assalamu Alaikum, If you all read nomadic's reply calmly you will understand that he is just being sarcastic, SubhanAllah, go read his comments again and figure out for yourself and then check your comments about him.
There is no harm in doing Miswak but we should not do it in a way that it looks bad specially in public places. Miswak is a beautiful Sunnah and we should try to implement it by finding out at what times our beloved RasoolAllah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam did miswak and try to emulate it. I remember once I was in the Masjid and a lady was talking to someone and doing Miswak at the same time which did not look very nice. There are times and places for doing things and when things are done in the right way no one will think we are weird. Salaams. |
