your laptop will need to be able to pick up wi-fi.

then you need a wireless router connected to you modem.

if your laptop does not have wi-fi capabilities then you will have to plug your laptop directly into your modem.

You have only connected the Desktop to the router i presume. Right now you have 2 cables,
1.Main cable to router.
2.Router to Desktop(computer LAN)

Check If you have 'Multiple' Jacks to connect more cables in the router.

If yes,
What you need is one more of cable No: 2, so that you can connect from Router to Laptop.

If no,
Check if its a Wi-fi router then connect the laptop wireless through wi-fi

Picturization

then first u need to get a wireless router for the other computer (which would cost around 1000 bucks) so as to be able to support wireless connections..

Bsnl is providing modem witj wifi router combined.

@shoib

Bhai first activate wi fi in your laptop. Go to my network setting.

Make sure u deactivate firewall an antivirus. This is required only for the first time.

Open the browser. Go to router settings by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press enter.

Tell me if u r able access the router settings.

Bro, did you try calling the Bsnl costumer care? One of my friend had a problem setting up wifi and he called them. There was a delay but they did the job.
