Salam,
i want to say that so much of the products nowadays have alcohol in them, e.g. perfumes, chocolates, cosmetics and other things, a Muslim person unknowingly uses all these which is forbidden in Islam, there should be some sign or something on these products to make it more identifiable by a Muslim or any other person that the product contains alcohol. Like we have a GREEN dot to specify that a product is 100% VEG and a RED dot to specify that the product is NON-VEG. Similarly we can have something to indicate that a particular product has alcohol or not. This will not only benefit Muslims but every other non-alcohol drinker as well because many other people don't consume alcohol or they are allergic to it. Please let us all unite to save ourselves and our brothers and sisters from committing this sin of using alcoholic products. |

Assalamu Alaikum
I always wondered how the other madhabs deal with this issue. Do they follow the same ruling that certain types of alcohol in small quantities is permissible? Do they completely stay away from these such products, or is there some other factor which makes such products permissible? Most people don't even know that alcohol is present in a lot of common snacks, foods and drinks. If you tell them small amounts of alcohol is allowed they are in shock. Do the scholars in the Arab world have halal list and do extensive research on the products imported in their countries? From this halal list, it seems as if this darul uloom does not support the permissibility of small amounts of alcohol, http://www.darululoomtt.org/images/s...August2011.pdf |

Cosmetics and perfumes contain synthetic alcohol. For foods, it's easy enough to read the label and not buy it if it has alcohol. it's the other ingredients, like glycerin, gelatin, stearic acid, etc, which most people have no clue what those words mean, that are more dangerous. |

Assalam O Alaikum
Giving the example of Green dot is not the good example because vegetarian do not restick alcohol, if flavor present in green dot containg food product, alcohol can beused as a solvent in flavor. The best protection from alcohol is not to consume food made with flavor and vanilla extract (Vanilla Extract contains 35% alcohol). For personal care products unsecented or fragrance free is the solution to avoid alcohol. Syed Rasheeduddin Ahmed www.muslimconsumergroup.com www.canadianhalalfoods.com Muslim Consumer Group |
