Is there an agreed-upon definition of what makes somebody a Ṣaḥābī? Obviously they had to be believers. Did they have to be close friends with Rasūl Allāh ﷺ, i.e. they were active in the Muslim community? Or is it enough that they only briefly met the Prophet once?
Apparently there were 50 or 60 prominent companions. But maybe there were "lesser companions" beyond that? |

Is ṣāḥib the masculine singular and ṣāḥabah the masculine plural? Ṣāḥibah the feminine singular and ṣawāḥib/ṣawāḥibat the feminine plural? Sahabiyyah = singular, female Sahaabah = plural, male (or males and females) Sahaabiyyaat = plural, females Plurals often are not regular, so you just have to memorize them. . . was-salam |
