I can't get my finger around an appropriate translation of these two sentences in Arabic. I would appreciate if some knowledgeable brother can help me out.

أحمده سبحانه وأشكره ومن مساوي عملي أستغفره

And this one:

إني باليقين أشهد شهادة الإخلاص أن لا يعبد بالحق مألوه سوى الرحمن

I found the second one hard to translate to English, but it makes it easier if you add footnotes:

* Ikhlas in Arabic means to purify something from any outside elements, so ikhlas of worship for Allah means that one's worship is directed solely towards him and not towards anything other than him.
* Ma`luh means ma'bud, "one that is worshiped."

Somehow I came out with these two translations:

I praise Him, He is free from all faults and I thank Him.

Equivalent to my actions do I seek His forgiveness.


إني باليقين أشهد شهادة الإخلاص أن لا يعبد بالحق مألوه سوى الرحمن

I certainly bear witness.

The testimony of sincerity that none has the right to be worshipped solely except Ar-Rahmaan.

* I think I will make some changes according to your translation. It rolls off better on the tongue. That "musawee 'amalee" and "ma'luhu" were really difficult to structure in the sentence.

Its masawi and not musawi. The correct translation is "misdeeds" or "evil deeds," not "equivalent."

( وَمِن مَسَاوِي ) قال ناظم في شرحه : جمع مساءةٍ . قال في (( القاموس )) سَاءِهُ سَوْءً وسَوَاء وسَوَاءَةً وسَوَايَةً وسَوَائِيَةً ومَسَاءَةً . مساءةً كما قال الشارح ، ومسائيةً جمعٌ مقلوبًا وأصله مساوِءة فعل به ما يُكره فاسْتَاء وهو السُّوء . إذًا : مساءةً المراد به السوء ، ولكن السوء بالضم هو الاسم منه . وفي (( المعجم الوجيز )) المساءة نقيض المسرة والمساوي المعايب والنقائص ولا تهمز ، لا تهمز يعني : لو قال مساوئ بالهمز وإنما مساوي بدون همزٍ .
وقال المصنف : إنها جمع مساءةٍ وينظر في صحة الجمع الذي ذكره رحمه الله تعالى . ومراد الناظم معلوم واضح بَيِّن المساوي جمع سيئةٍ وهي الفعلة القبيحة وهي ضد الحسنة ، والسوء كل ما يغم الإنسان من الأمور الدنياوية والأخروية .

Although my arabic is still elementary i was also stuck on Masawee i thought it meant Equal / Equivalent, so the word derives from soo' (evil) سوء?

But for some reason the latter statement (Masawee) wasn't explained so i was stuck.

As for your second line:

I was at first stuck on Ma'luh (thinking it was Mudhaf / Mudhaf Ilayh with the ha Dhameer but i was obviously wrong lol) but looking on the second page of the above book, this is what i found:

I had initially translated it as you said, but after having a look at Sh. al-Hazimi's commentary:

، ( شَهادَةَ ) بالنصب على أنه مفعولٌ مطلق نوعيّ أو لا ؟ نوعي ؛ لأنه أضاف إلى ما بعده . إذًا مفعولٌ مطلقٌ النوعي . ( الإِخلاصِ ) مضافٌ إلى ( شَهادَةَ ) من إضافة الموصوف إلى الصفة ، أي : الشهادة التي يَخْلُصُ بها من الشرك ويكون بقولها واعتقاد معناها موحدًا . قال ماذا ؟

it seemed that the phrase "a sincere testimony" did not accurately convey the intended meaning of the text. What about something like: I testify, a testimony through which one is purified [from shirk], ...? That seems to convey both the meaning of ikhlas in this context and the fact that the second shahadah is maf'ul mutlaq li bayan al-naw'.

Our intention is for Allah and how wonderful an intention it is!

ليس المناصب همنا ومرادنا

Status is not important nor is it wanted from us.

كلا ولا ثوب الخديعة نرتدي

No! With no cover of deception do we wear.

بعلاج أنفسنا المريضة نبتدي

We start with treatment of our own sick selves.

نحب أن نهدي البرية كلها

We love to (make the effort to) guide all of creation.

ندعو القريب قبيل نصح الأبعد

We give da’wah to the ones who are close before advising those who are furthest away.

وبواجب المعروف نأمر قومنا

And as a duty we command our people with good.

ونقوم صفا في طريق المفسد

And we stand in rows in the way of corruption.

لو تبصروا الأحباب في حلقاتنا

If you see the beloved brothers in our gatherings.

من عالم أو طالب مسترشد

From a scholar or student who guides to the straight path.

لرأيت علما و إتباعا صادقا

You will definitely see true knowledge and practice.

للسنة الغراء دون تردد

They are attached to the Sunnah without hesitation.

هم زينة الدنيا مصابيح الهدى

They are the adornment of the world, illuminations of guidance.

طلعوا على الدنيا طلوع الفرقد

They came up in the world like the rising of stars (farqad?).

ورثوا النبي أحسنوا قي إرثه

They inherited from the Prophet.They excelled in his inheritance.

وحموه من كيد الخبيث المعتدي

And they protected it (the Prophet’s inheritance) from the plots of the wicked aggressor.
