@ Brother Verdana, do you know any good English books about Ottoman history? (preferably written by Muslims/Muslim scholars.) Unfortunately, I never found one; not even in Turkish, yet alone in English. There are books by Suraiya Faroqhi written in German, but also translated into English. However, I have no idea how good and reliable her books are. By the way, Since the Turks became Muslims and up until 1940th Ottoman Muslim women used to wear Niqab along with Hijab. Non-Muslim women back then wore only Hijab without Niqab. That's how they were distinguished. After the fall of Ottoman many things have been destroyed and stolen from the people. Here is one piece of a history: http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/3411/19151917.jpg |

Was disappointed to see that none of the men in the pictures had beards, but had long mustaches instead- exactly what the Prophet hated. Is there any reason for this? I guess it was due to common decline of Islamic practice, nevertheless you will find some Ottoman warriors having the full wājib-beard māsha Allāh: http://www.ottomanpalestine.com/inde...5D,%201917.jpg http://www.ottomanpalestine.com/inde...0PALESTINE.jpg As for the scholars it appears that all of them had the imāmah and full wājib-beard māsha Allāh. At the end of the day these where brave Muslim brothers fighting and dying for the sake of Allāh , so may Allāh forgive them their shortcomings and elevate their rank in the here-after. Ameen. And Allāh knows best. |

What about Discovering the Ottomans (by Ilber Ortayli)? By the way, just a few hours ago I held an old-style ilmihāl* in Ottoman language in my hands which I found in my local Turkish masjid. On the first page it says something about "'Abd al-Hamīd Khān" and "Sultān ibn al-Sultān", but can't remember everything anymore... Some time ago a Kurdish murīd brother told me that his wife still understands Ottoman and if I remember correctly she also takes her Islamic knowledge from an ilmihāl in Ottoman language. Also, if you look at the last pages of a Turkish Qur'ān mushaf printed by Hayrāt Neşriyat, you will find that the tajwīd rules there are explained in Ottoman language. * For non-Turks: Books for lay people which cover the basics of Islamic knowledge are called ilmihāl in Turkish, hence Bahishti Ziwar could be called ilmihāl. PS: Sorry, I am just realizing that I've gone a bit off-topic, apologies... |

salaam
jazakallah for all the info and pictures. how i wish i lived under there rule and visited the haramain before it was destroyd with commercial shopping centres and skys****ers. this is why of al the 3 harams i prefer al aqsa. its not been demolished at all. it still as the ancient wall around the city and all the shops are hidden away in the alleyways. you wont find any tall building neaby either, no drilling or bulding workin taking place. it was one of the most greatest expereince of my life. may Allah (swt) keep aqsa this way and free it from the claws of the zionist pigs and let makkah and medinah return to how it was. |

Want one of these, anyone? They were adopted by the Ottomans in 1826 was banned in Turkey in 1925 and people were punished from wearing the "fez" as a visible symbol to Islam. |

I don't get this constant targetting of saudi and aal saud...I mean the sharif of mecca....who betrayed and rebelled against the turks...was the great ancestor of the present ruler of jordon...the previous king of jordon king hussain was another traitor who in the war of 1967 gave the secret plans of the egyptians and syrians to the israelis....so basically i know the saudis are jokers...but come on the family ruling jordon is no better....how about the tunisian president who banned hijab....he deserves a mention....and the morrocan amirul mumineen...or the rulers of mauritania who normolized relations with israel and recognized this illegal terrorist state. or the many other states who allow the kuffar bases in their lands to target muslims...the list will go on and on........so saudi is responsible for many wrongs....but so are many other regimes...

I don't get this constant targetting of saudi and aal saud The main difference is they've taken control of the city of Nabi and the Haram. In addition, they have allowed heterodoxy to take hold in those lands and actively try to discredit valid beliefs and legal positions of orthodoxy, they haven't preserved the historical sites or have actively destroyed them, and are best friends with the kuffar. |

I think that the problem is that, unlike other Muslim majority countries, Saudi Arabia actually presents itself as a Muslim country. They act as if they are a Sharia state, and their fake scholars (i.e. Madkhalis) praise them to no end, and have a large enough following in the West, where many Muslims are fooled into thinking that Saudi Arabia is a model nation for others to follow. |

with regards to dear brother suleiman's comments...well the article is not an accurate reflection of what happened. The sharif of mecca sided with the disbelivers against the muslims. Even though the turkish empire towards the end was very weak it was still an islamic state. There was no justification in this behaviour. Also the treachery of the sharif of mecca is very clear. He handed over shaykh ul hind mahmood ul hasan deobandi and shaykh ul islam maulana madni to the brits and they were held captive in malta. They had made elaborate plans for a big offensive against the brits. Anyway with regards to rebelling against the khalifah then many people were involved in this mess so to point fingers at wahabis only is injustice. With regards to saudi rule presenting itself as an islamic country...so do all the others...the jordananian royals all claim that they are part of ahlul bayt and thus entitled to rule. The king of morroco the same thing...claims the title amir ul mumineen. All of them use religious justification. With regards to destroying historical sites and promoting incorrect beliefs then yes saudi is guilty of this. With regards to aiding the kuffar show me 1 country which does not? Yemen allowes the americans to carry out strikes in their country, the whole of the gulf is full of military bases...france just opened a base in abu dhabi recently, tunisia banned the hijab, morroco is the same....actually all of them are the same....so why blame just
