Default sufi dress code
i noticed that a lot of tariqas have certain types of uniforms or dress code. that when a new murid joins the gang, he has to dress like them. I always found this to be rather strange. good answer is given by the following brother on the issue, of should we be really following a groups dress or that of the sunnah?

I have heard Shaykh Zulfiqar DB and his mureeds and khulafa wear a particular dress because it is the closest kurta/jubba to what was worn by Rasoolullah . Shaykh Zulfiqar DB even saw Rasoolullah in his dream wearing that particular kurta/jubba. It is styled with one button with a loop at the top and the jubba reaches to the middle of the shins.

Is it a specific sunnah to wear the dresscode which was worn by Rasulullah (sallAllahualayhi was sallam) ? Like the turban is it a specific sunnah, or is it something that was worn by all people of that time and erea for climatical reasons ?

The dress code of evry sufi is that of prophet mohammad(saw) i.e sunnah.if his dress code is contrary to the sunnah, then he isnt a sufi..

yes, every dress of the sufi is, the dress of the sunnah. HOWEVER, if the groups then seizes to wear it like the prophet (saw), alternatively changing the clothes from time to time. Then this stops from being the sunnah and becomes a uniform of the group like the dawati islami for example. they only and exclusively wear the bright green turban and the selwar khamis. Nothing else, this has become the uniform of their group. although as the author of the article says, they will be rewarded for it. It nonetheless, is not the closeness to resembling the sunnah. When people see them rather then remind people of the prophet it reminds them of that group!

False: the Sahabah were clearly recognizable as Muslims and looked different from non-Muslims even in their external appareance; that's why you'll find ahadith in which Rasulullah recommended them to adopt certain practises to differentiate themselves from the kuffar - for example, the hadith regarding the headgear and the turban.

Yes, their clothes were somehow conditioned by the climate and time in which they lived (in material available, patterns, etc.), but not totally: they still differentiated themselves from the kuffar.
