I got this in the email today from al-Maghrib Institute
THURSDAY, ... OCT. 2011 Shaykh Abdulbary Yahya Night Lecture with College of Foundation and General Studies, UNITEN Topic: “Rock stars: Young People Around the Messenger.” Location: Dewan Kuliah 1, ..... [Google Maps] Time: 8:00pm – 9:30pm Co-organizer: College of Foundation and General Studies, UNITEN What I wanted to ask is it halaal to say this? I don't feel it is right, but how can these Ulama do this? |

They're trying to use lingo that I assume they think would appeal to the current youth. "Rockstars" is a term people have hijacked into meaning a "superstar", "perfect" etc.
The intention isn't to disrespect (of course) but it's not really a good choice of words at all given the obvious connotation despite it being a metaphor. |
