Assalamu alaykum
Hazrath, you must be aware of the present day busy life. Even the home minister and the children need a break. I don't see anything wrong in going a place which is already visited by the male members to make sure that everything goes as per shariah, arrangement can be planned for this. Earlier days, we use to visit our relatives house in turn they use to visit us. But sharaee paradah cannot be implemented in these visits. So, it is better to plan our visit to a place exclusively for our family alone. Regarding permissibility from seerah, yes it is not available. But we are maazoor now, break is a must. |

you will feel pretty frustrated by doing the same things everday and living in the same space for years and years! even if you do go for umrah often, you still need to go on holiday coz umrah/haj is not a holiday its a spiritual trip and its wrong to go there just to chill-out, relax, and do cool things. After you've done umrah you can go to Jeddah beach. |

![]() Oh wow a simple question turn into a huge debate " as usual" .... Not everyone is fortunate and blessed to be living in Madeenah and away from the " kaafir " country. No one is talking about spending thousands on holidays or seeing it as " fardh" to go on holidays. As I said before If a person is blessed with wealth and after spending it on the necessary things in life, spending it in the path of Allah ![]() I live on an Island where many visit for holidays ... I have never had to remove my niqab and have seen no one visiting here have to do that. Countless Ulema have visited here on deeni trips or for holidays with their families. ![]() It's obvious a sensible person with common sense, will choose to holiday in places they know are fitnah free and yes they are places that exist that are!!! I personally have not been on a " holiday" anywhere . I don't have to as I live on a " holiday Island " my trips so far have been in Jamaat or accompanying my father on business trips in the past . If Allah wills in the future I do wish to travel on a " holiday" ![]() I remember one renowned scholar visited here and when visiting a cave we have here ( it's one of the wonders of the world ) , he was like ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I dont have anything to say because you Haven't even understood ONE POINT of what I have said! ![]() I believe that what Maulana Taliban is trying to highlight is that there should be a deeni reason for travelling not merely for sightseeing and tourism. At present due to the influence of Western culture and the fact that we are inundated by it that our Imaani minds have become dulled. For those who feel that holidaying is allowed please provide examples from the lives of the Sahaabah ![]() ![]() As I mentioned earlier I will type what Imam IbnQudamah states in Mukhtasar Minhaj al Qasideen: Travelling for consideration of signs and excursion is allowed where mere tourism without any purpose is not. Imam Ahmad Bin Hanbal said, "there is no tourism in Islam. Neither Prophets nor the righteous has observed it." Since travelling trouble one's heart, it should be meant to obtain knowledge ormeet a famous scholar. Travelling commands a great deal of manners. Man should clear himself from wrong doings, pay his debts, secure subsistence for his dependants and restore trusts to their owners. He should choose and upright companion. He firstly should do the Istikhaarah prayers. He should travel at night along wiith comrades. He should constantly hymn Allah's praises.... From the above it is clear that travelling for mere tourism is not allowed. The majority of travelling in this day and age is done for tourism and sightseeing places. It is one of the illnesses that has creeped into us due to our exposure to Western culture. We feel that we need to 'escape' from our current lives and go somewhere and 'chill' just as the western concept is of holidaying. If we then take into consideration the fact that Israaf is carried out compounded by the fahshaah that surrounds us the moment we step out it is not hard to imagine why this was not the practice of the righteous salaf even when there was righteousness. What about now? I think that people need to think deeply on what Maulana Taliban is trying to get across before jumping to the conclusion that there is nothing wrong with holidaying and dismissing anything to the contrary. I also use to feel the same but have since reviewed why I was thinking like that. It took time but slowly I was able to see how much my mind is subconsciously affected by the fisq and fujoor that is prevalent. Ponder of the following Qur'aanic ayats and it will also assist us in opening our thinking insha'Allah: 57:20 Know that the life of this world is only play, and idle talk, and pageantry, and boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children; as the likeness of vegetation after rain, whereof the growth is pleasing to the husbandman, but afterward it drieth up and thou seest it turning yellow then it becometh straw. And in the Hereafter there is grievous punishment, and (also) forgiveness from Allah and His good pleasure, whereas the life of the world is but matter of illusion. 29:64 This life of the world is but a pastime and a game. Lo! the home of the Hereafter that is life, if they but knew. 46:20 And on the day when those who disbelieve are exposed to the Fire (it will be said): Ye squandered your good things in the life of the world and sought comfort therein.... I understand that to adopt this level of Imaan is not easy but Insha'Allah if we try we will obtain the reward from Allah Ta'ala. I hope that I have not offended anybody through this. My intention is only to advise myself first and Inhsa'Allah make people realise that this holidaying that is done in this day and age is not from our righteous predecessors. It is in fact one of the roads of Jahannum due to the amount of haraam that one embarks on from the beginning of the journey till the end. However, if we sincerely wish to provide some enjoiyment for our families and try our best to observe the limits of the Shariah May Allah Ta'ala forgive us our shortcomings and our weaknesses. ![]() |

In principle, I get Maulana Taliban's point. Although my husband travels much all over the world for a number if reasons and I am also fortunate to have travelled to a few places, nowadays, the only holiday I want to take is to Makkah and Madina. Every time, the family resolve to go anywhere I think to myself, 'If I save up this much more, I can go to for Umrah again next year instead.' Everything else pales in comparison.
Local and national trips; we take many, mostly to educate or entertain the kids or whilst traveling for another reason, we make it a day out. But going abroad and spending so much money in just going places is not my cup of tea. I can't afford it anyway. It gets boring after a bit and we both feel restless to get back to the list of things waiting for us at home. Why waste time and money that we dont have? Having said that, occasionally, mid-year, one really does need a break. If money was not a problem, a weekend away from the hullabaloo of daily life can be quite refreshing and recharging- taking into consideration all halal and haram, of course. |

![]() Brother firaswagner you don't need to travel to see the wonder of Allahs creation. Do you not read the quran. Isn't that a big enough wonder in itself. You should be too busy contemplating over the majesty of the quran instead of travelling around the world. Then look at your body. Imagine every single atom in your body, isn't that a wonder also. Brother instead of travelling around the world looking for Allahs wonders why don't you stand up at night and pray 5 hours Tahajjud Salah. Why don't you give the money you are going to use to travel to some poor needy orphan. Then if Inshallah if you are entered into Jannah you may ponder over its wonders. This will be more beneficial spiritually to you than travellnig around the world. ![]() |

![]() I posted previously asking about cheap and halal holidays. Here are my reasons: I have four children who are home educated. They are with me most of the time. I don't allow them to watch tv, play computer games (except a few chosen educational games), mix with all and sundry etc. I am trying to instil in them a love of the deen so besides getting them to pray salat and Qur'an I try to make them enjoy their deen by allowing certain things. For example eating out in one particular restaurant (hmc of course). Now many ulema understandably say it's better not to eat out, to prepare food yourself etc. But this is one outlet for my family - we go together as a family, we utilize a private family room and the masjid is closeby for salat. Growing up I was allowed to go to Pizza Hut with friends and this is not something we are going to allow our children. But going out together as a family once in a while is fine. We haven't taken the children anywhere for about 6 years. Prior to that we did an Umrah Malaysia combo which worked out well. It's expensive for us now and I'm quite keen on trying out Brother Colonel's suggestion of going for a cheap trip within the UK. Places like the Lake District are woody so no beach as such in sight but yes we have been to a beach in Wales when we got married and there was not a soul in sight. I am against going to any place that has men and women showing their awra. A few years ago my husband and I went to Damascus for a few days and standing up there on Jabal Qasiyoun listening to the adhaans all over the city echoing one after another is a memory that's going to stay with me. Likewise I'd love to take the children when they are older to Istanbul. I don't want to waste money, that's for sure. Life is temporary and why waste precious time and money like that. But at the same time I need to give my children a halal positive outlet so that they don't in turn begin to resent the deen. They are growing up in a technological advanced society as never seen before. Yes the beloved Prophet saw didn't travel in the same way, but it also wasn't done as it is done now. Look at how fast you can get to from one place to another. Our world is becoming one big melting pot, we are facing difficult challenges and higher levels of fitnah everyday. I do wish to go for Umrah and would feel guilty spending similar amounts of money on a regular holiday. A few years ago I researched into self catering apartments with swimming pools in Jeddah and found one or two. It was my intention then to go for Umrah and stop off a few days in Jeddah. But like Sis Sudoku said, one can only go when invited by Almighty Allah. Please make duah for me and my family to visit the house of Allah... I wonder if those of you who completely disagree with the concept of holidays have children? Ours are kept entertained by local trips mashaallah but if you wanted to analyse these, then even these might not be deemed as 'halal' as living in a non muslim country you hear a bit of music here and there and women not covered properly.... May Allah protect us and our children from the fitnahs that are practiced so openly ameen |

![]() @Sister onetinywish - I fully understand the reasoning behind your wishes for going on holiday. I myself have three young children and it is very difficult in trying to entertain them Islamically in an unislamic environment. What myself, Maulana Taliban and Brother IslamforLyf are saying is that we need to review the current crazy trend of people having to go on holiday and then stating that it is for witnessing Allah's creation. Some people don't even state this but just go on holiday without giving it a second thought to the Islamic issues that surround this. My quote of Imam Ibn Qudama is enlightening to read as he clearly quotes Imam Ahmed Ibn Hanbal as saying that the Prophets nor the salaf went for mere tourism. The ayats of the qur'aan also bear testimony to the transitory nature of this world. However, I also fully understand that trying to bring up young children in such an unislamic atmosphere is very difficult. For example with my own children I restrict music, cartoons, video games etc and this can be very difficult for young minds to comprehend when it is everywhere around them. Then for me to tell them that even going somewhere is wrong it will make them feel that they have been imprisoned. This is only because the Western libertine culture is surrounding us on all sides. Sometimes the lesser of the evils needs to be taken to avoid further problems but that still does not make the lesser of the two evils any better. It is as a result of our weakness that we need to take certain steps. I admire anyone who is taking on home education as I am unable to do so. It is a great sacrifice and Insha'Allah may Allah Ta'ala give me the ni'mat of doing this myself. I hope that people do not just become fixated on the holiday issue but to take this opportunity to critically analyse our thought processes and try to eliminate the shaitaani effects of the western culture that pervades our brains. May Allah Ta'ala open our hearts to His Deen and make us submit fully to His Desires. ![]() |

[QUOTE=Taliban;674674]That's what I"m saying. You are most welcome to go to a place inside your city where you live. But spending millions to go to a beach in South Africa is just Waste of MONEY and ALLAH WILL ASK ABOUT IT!
ASAK Maulana Sb, What do you say about those who save millions and not spend it? If one is giving out Zakat and some sadaqah, how are they going to spend all this money? ان المبذرين كانوا اخوان الشياطين Over-spenders are the brothers of Shayateen. How do we quantify over-spending? |

Ml. Taliban, I don't understand why you are encouraging people to perform Nafl Hajj and Umrah's as a substitute for holidays. You mention and agree with the concept that if something is not mandatory according to the Shariah, then it is not permissible to pursue it if it entails dabbling in the Haraam or if there is any threat to our Imaan. Are you not aware of the fitan of airplanes, airports, traveling, etc ... ? Is is possible for any Muslim (scholar or otherwise) living in these times to say that their Imaan is so strong, knowing that even Ameerul Mu'mineen Umar (RA) doubted his own Imaan by inquiring if he was in the list of munaafiqs!? How in the world would it be permissible to travel for a Nafl Hajj or Umrah if one's iman is risked in just the journey there? Especially since one can acquire the reward of an accepted Hajj and Umrah by merely performing ishraq prayer!? If one were to go there and perform them himself - there is no guarantee of acceptance - but thru Ishraq prayer there is!
I humbly request you to revise your advice to remain consistent, and to explain if there is no need to. Also, please include a list of activities and other things which money is spent on that are in and of themselves permissible, but are rendered impermissible due to extravagance or being a waste of money. What would really be awesome, is an objective criterion which lay-people can use to judge for themselves what constitutes extravagance. Another question: What forms of charity are mandatory upon a believer, apart from Zakaat - such that it becomes blameworthy if one does not participate in them. For example, many in the Ummah are starving - is one a sinner if they 'merely' pay their Zakaat and nothing else? How much of your wealth do you have to spend on others who are needy, before one is justified in spending a penny more than what is required for survival on their own selves? |
