Al Salam Alaykom everyone, I would like to talk about the issue of using carpets in mosques and how dirty in general mosques are. Most, if not all, mosques I enter usually have a strong smell of feet from the bacteria that is contained there from the lack of ventilation, containment in carpets and its spreading even more when people do not dry their feet after ablution and causing the carpets to be wet. Not only is this very discouraging for people to go pray there constantly, but it is unhealthy as well. I have read that carpets need to be deep cleaned by professionals at least once a year because they can, over time, contain dangerous diseases and bacteria such as E. Coli. And it is once a year for home carpets, then how much worse is it when carpets are stepped on by hundreds of people per day and putting your face on them and the only cleaning they get is by a vacuum cleaner every once in a while?
My solution is creating designated spots for people to put their face and hands on when praying (having a drawing of a round area where people should not step or sit) and putting them horizontally every metre (give or take) and place walk ways between every row so people do not walk on the praying areas. This would reduce the contamination of dangerous bacteria from people stepping on them and then having that bacteria stuck on your face. One more thing, I have seen lots of people with an extremely disgusting habit which makes me want to vomit, they start peeling off the dried skin on their feet and just keeping it on the carpet. This is extremely unacceptable and offensive to god and Islam. What do you guys think of this? I am surprised that this issue has not been talked about before. |
