Assalamu alakum wrb
I hope by the grace of allah SWt you are in the best health and imaan. I have a question which I ask your correct ilm for which inshallah I will receive. Alhamdulallilah I strive everyday to improve my deen and be a practicing muslimah accordingly. I preserve my modesty in full islamic dress (including niqaab), abstain from free mixing even within family circles (ie in laws who are non mahram and at work). However recently my brother pointed out that speaking (either on the telephone or in above scenarios even out of necessity) may not be halal. May be a silly question but could somebody please clarify. Jazakallah khairun in advance for your sincere naseeha. ws |

![]() Actually some 'Ulama are of the view that the voice of a woman is Awra also. Regardless of whether it's Awrah or not, a woman CANNOT talk to a non-mehram male unless it's very very important. And even when she's talking, she needs to talk in a harsh tone as stated in Quran: "Be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease (of hypocrisy, or evil desire for adultery, etc.) should be moved with desire" (Sura Al-Azzab Ayat #32) |
