I guess we members have a chance of making this forum what it is. I just dont like it when mods come in and take sides instead of being referees.

That said, I wish we would have more discussions on matters than just praying and keeping beards...but again its us who make it what it is. I'll hang around for sometimes and see where we go from here

Some times people demand explanation of Moderator's actions, in such cases the moderators explanation might sound like taking sides. Moreover since it is Islamic forum everybody is supposed to take side with the truth as it is clear from Surah Asr. As somebody said that you have to be impartial to truth. Wallahualam.

This too is unavoidable. In fact after our initial intellectual excitement is over the things boil down to very down to Earth things like how much high should I raise my finger when sitting in Qa'eeda.

In fact you, like all other, are among the people who'll decide the future direction. Some of us try to keep the things conservative and hence put up some resistance sometimes because we feel that some things are rather obvious big no no in Islam. People like you do bring a breath of fresh air and that is very valuable. I'll take it as a loss if anyone like you goes away. I'll also like to add that I devote considerable energy in intellectually challenging things (professionally) and the Salafi type of approach to Islam is neither exciting nor inspiring to this sinner.

Ah! Now I recognize you completely.
Eid was great. I packed in lots of activity in a short period of time. Lots of warming up of hearts and lots of breaking of hearts (at the time of bye-bye). Somehow lots of SMS in the inbox (did not reply to them). Lots of phone calls received and more made. Also managed not to eat too much! Lots of time spent with biratheraan-e-watan, all the time worrying about their hidayah. May be I'll write a post some where about it.

And how was yours?
Wassalam

Islamic forums are generally full of semi-literate, uneducated philistines. That is not to say, that every person who frequents them is of that category. But most of them would do well to go get an education rather than sitting on internet forums.

In my humble opinion, a lot of the nonsense people encounter on muslim forums tends to encourage ignorance among muslims, and turn people away from islam.

Let me correct you.

In actuality, the internet is generally full of semi-literate, uneducated philistines. In fact, let's be honest here, the majority of people in the entire world would fit that description. The problem is that the anonymity of the internet allows many of those semi-literate people to voice their uneducated opinions.

This isn't restricted to Muslim forums. I've been to forums of various other interests and most are much worse than what you find on even the lower quality Muslim forums.

I think the question you (and myself, as well as everyone else) should be asking yourself is whether or not you are contributing to that problem.

As for the question itself, I mainly stick to SF. I occasionally browse Marifah, and used to regularly browse Islamic Awakening, but the former has very little activity, and the latter only harms my Iman.

I would say the former only harms Iman and the latter has too much activity on top of sometimes harming the Iman.

May Allah guide us.

aoa,

i like SF for these things:

- good presentation of website
- no lame stuff like 'this member has thanked xyz times'
- no pics
- balanced moderators. esp hazrat abu hajira. i really look forward to reading his post where ever i can find. his pwnage of some members is legendary

is it true tho that ummah.com has a lot more diversity in topics?

I don't think Marifah harms Iman. I don't read the Istighatha topics there (which there is only one of anyways as far as I know), and besides that I can't remember reading anything I found very off-putting.

I'm going to be joining the turntoislam forum, I don't like this forum very much because I feel very censored. I'm Ahle Hadith*, so I need a forum where I'm free to promote my view points.
