I was asked by a christian why in the quran Allah says:

وَإِنَّكُمْ لَّتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِمْ مُّصْبِحِينَ - وَبِالَّيْلِ أَفَلاَ تَعْقِلُونَ
Verily, you pass by them in the morning, and at night. Will you not then reflect (37:137-138)

which is in reference to the ruins at Sodom which is near the dead sea and so the mushrikun couldn't have passed by the ruins morning and night because it was thousand miles away? He said that this is evidence that the Quran was not "written" in Mecca. astaghfirullah. First, is it true that Sodom is located by the dead sea in what is now israel? second, is this verse addressed to the mushrikun in mecca?
