Default Is it permitted to lie if...?
Salam dear brothers & sisters

Is it true that we are permitted to lie if you are preventing a situation
to escalate? For example two of my best mates don't talk to each other anymore because if minor misunderstanding. I tried to resolve the issue but none is willing to back down and be the bigger person. This really saddens me I have been advised to make up some stuff (basically) to get them both talking to each other. Apparently that's islamically allowed. Is this true?

Please advise a sister

Wa alaikumu as-salamu wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuhu

Narrated Um Kulthum bint Uqba:

That she heard Allah's Apostle saying, "He who makes peace between the people by inventing good information or saying good things, is not a liar."

wasalam sister,
Yes you can if there is enmity between the two.You know you can just smooth out the way out towards peace without having to utter some enormous fabrication.for eg ; You can tell one of the two friends that the other one is willing to be friends with her and tell the same to your other friend as well..In most cases its about not wanting to be the one to speak first or pride...so I think first you should create a good impression about each of them in their minds..all the best..May Allah reward you !!
