Narated By Sad bin Abi Waqqas : Once Umar asked the leave to see Allah's Apostle in whose company there were some Quraishi women who were talking to him and asking him for more financial support raising their voices. When 'Umar asked permission to enter the women got up (quickly) hurrying to screen themselves. When Allah's Apostle admitted 'Umar, Allah's Apostle was smiling, 'Umar asked, "O Allah's Apostle! May Allah keep you happy always." Allah's Apostle said, "I am astonished at these women who were with me. As soon as they heard your voice, they hastened to screen themselves." 'Umar said, "O Allah's Apostle! You have more right to be feared by them." Then he addressed (those women) saying, "O enemies of your own souls! Do you fear me and not Allah's Apostle ?" They replied. "Yes, for you are a fearful and fierce man as compared with Allah's Apostle." On that Allah's Apostle said (to 'Umar), "By Him in Whose Hands my life is, whenever Satan sees you taking a path, he follows a path other than yours." (Sahih Bukhari Vol 004, Book 054, Hadith Number 515)

Abu ‘Ubayd said in Kitaab al-Ghareeb:
Abu Mu’aawiyah told us, from Abu ‘Aasim al-Qaffi, from al-Shu’bi from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood, who said:
“A man from among the humans went out and was met by a man from among the jinn, who said, ‘Will you wrestle with me? If you throw me to the ground I will teach you an aayah which, if you recite it when you enter your house, no shaytaan will enter.’
So he wrestled with him and threw him to the ground. He said, ‘I see that you are very small and your forearms are like the front paws of a dog. Are all the jinn like this, or only you?’
He said, ‘I am strong among them. Let us wrestle again.’
So they wrestled again and the human threw him to the ground. So he (the jinn) said, ‘Recite Aayat al-Kursiy, for no one recites it when he enters his house, but the Shaytaan leaves, farting like a donkey.’
It was said to Ibn Mas’ood, “Was that man ‘Umar?” He said, “Who else could it have been, other than ‘Umar?”

Hadhrat can we talk about the location in your profile? A Muslim is supposed to have husn-e-dhann with Allah Sub-hanahu wa T'aala at every moment of time. Then you are one of very inspiring members at SF but still you experiment with this type of cryptic quotes-in profile location, in signature or both. I hope everything is alright. Is there a puzzle like secret behind this, like Ana-al-haq?
Wassalam

PS: A great thread by the way. It is curious that all the four Pious Caliphs had such a different character from each other yet exactly like each other in their ikhlas.

Actually I'll show you guys something funny from the books of the Twelver Shia, they probably read our Hadith and felt jealous of ‘Umar (ra) so they fabricated this amazing story, Shia scholar Hashim al-Bahrani said in his book Madinat al-Ma’ajiz 1/147-151 #88 chapter 29:

From the miracles of Ameer al-Mumineen ‘Ali is his story with ‘Utrufah the Jinn and this is a famous narration known by the Shia scholars and I found it in Bihar al-Anwar in a long narration from Zathan from Salman: The Prophet SAWS was once sitting in al-Abtah with a couple of his companions when suddenly we saw a tornado of sand rise to the sky and it kept approaching until it reached the shoe of the Prophet SAWS then it stopped and a person came out of it and said: “O Prophet my people sent me to you, please send with me one from amongst you because we have been oppressed so send someone to judge between us.” The Prophet SAWS said: “Who are you and who are your people?” The person said: “I am ‘Utrufah ibn Shimrakh Ahad bin Janah, me and my companions were spying in the heavens but when we were forbidden from it then we believed in Allah and in you but some of our people have opposed us and they outnumber us and outmatch us so send with me a man to rule between us justly.” The Prophet SAWS told ‘Ali: “Go with ‘Utrufah and judge between his people in justice.” So ‘Ali stood and carried his sword, Salman said: “I followed them to the valley where they stopped and then the earth opened up and they entered inside it and after some time the earth opened up again and ‘Ali came out with his bloody sword” The Prophet SAWS asked ‘Ali: “What kept you so long?” ‘Ali said: “I saw a lot of Jinn who were oppressing ‘Utrufah and his companions, they were hypocrites and they opposed me so I fought them with my sword and killed eighty thousand of them.”

That was bothering me too when I was typing my post. It is completely understandable.

Do you have a Shaikh? Is he easily accessible?

Shaykh with whom you can confide the things that you can not share with us.

No, i am not into bay'ah.

This is what I was indeed asking.
Doing bayt is not obligatory/mandatory/compulsory.
Self-correction is obligatory.
As Allah(SWT) says that he succeeded who reformed himself.

One can have a full blown self-correctional relation ship with a Shaykh without being bayt.
I personally heard the account of Ml Syed Salman Nadwi Sahab in a private meeting. He approached various Shuyukh and told them that I do not have the capacity to fulfill the demands of bayt but I want a relationship for self-correction. Nobody denied him access. By now he is a caliph of Hakim Akhtar Sb(DB).

Personally my family too has no history of bayt but after coming to such a company where Tareeqat is a way of I realize that this is one delicacy of life that no one should miss. Once one gets over the initial hesitation then the coming things are such that they can not be described. I am sure you'll agree that I am not talking about miracles. I ended in this company because of personal difficulties. For you too this is in some sense a unique route to the best of the spiritual journey. I encourage and urge you to give this serious thought.

I'll end with a joke. I Shaykh was in the town. An associate announced after the sermon by the Shaykh that those who want to be bayt with the Shaykh should come forward. The Shaykh was a bit shy and remarked that I hope Qazi Sahab has not taken money from you people.
