Hi, this is my first post,
I'm 15, so I rarely need to do ghusl anyways, but when I do I end up repeating it every day because I can't get it right, the biggest problem is sniffing water up my nose- I don't know how, my nose is always stuffed to I don't know how I'm supposed to sniff water up it, I can't breath through the nostril. And when it's not stuffed I don't know if the water is reaching the point that it needs to reach, I end up swallowing water through my nose and choking my self, everywhere I've read, it says that sniffing water is compulsory, but I can't sniff water because my nose is always runny and if it's not I don't know how to sniff then blow it out. So how to I wash my nose then, it's impossible if I have a runny nose and as torturous if I don't have a runny nose? What is the soft bone? I've also been dealing with waswas recently because it takes me 15 minutes to perform wudu' and ghusl- probably minimum 30 minutes and maximum an hour! If a hair's breadth is left dry ghusl will not be valid, if the nose is not washed thrice thoroughly thrice and same for the mouth, ghusl will not be valid, and if ghusl is not valid, prayer is not valid and this = hell These are the words that are on my mind the whole time, I never know when my a part is left dry, what if a little dot on my scalp covered by hair is dry, and the shower didn't wash there. In conclusion I have three questions: 1) how do I wash the nose in ghusl? 2) how long should it take me to do ghusl? 3) how do I know if it's valid? |

The minimum criteria for Ghusl to be valid is 2:
1. Niyyat(intention). Just think in mind that 'I am doing ghusl to remove major impurities.' 2. Water should reach all parts of the body. ( one doesn't have to wash the eyes or inside the nose to achieve that) If you fulfill the above two criteria then your Ghusl is valid. Then there are lots of Sunnah one can follow: -Saying Bismillah in the beginning. -Beginning with the right side. -Making wudu before Ghusl. etc etc. |

Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
Brother Im not sure what Fiqh you follow but if you are Hanafi, the bare minimum for ghusl to be valid is the following 1. washing mouth 2. washing the nose (sniffing water until the hard part and blowing it out) 3. washing of the entire body. There are many sunnahs as the brother above mentioned and you can learn this from your local scholar or books such as Ascent to Felicity which you can find on alrashad.com. Once you have done what is needed for ghusl and wudhu, ignore all mere possibilities especially since you are having waswassas because when one is in such a state he cannot think properly and check surah naas(last surah of Quran) and you will find that, we seek protection from the whispers of the devil, so succumbing to his whispers is not allowed. In general the way of the sunnah is to be easy going in manners of Tahara(purity). you can read about that here... http://ghazali.org/books/purity.pdf and for a reader on waswasa here is a link.... http://seekersguidance.org/ans-blog/...ss-misgivings/ waAllahu Alam ZF |

In conclusion I have three questions: Just don't care about what its valid or not, these were shaytaan whispers. And as you mentioned if the nose is not washed thrice thoroughly thrice, it is not obligatory to wash thrice, Yes it is sunnah but that too comes under doing wuzu(sunnah wuzu) if you are doing as per sunnah. Don't look at those doubts and continue. These are the words that are on my mind the whole time, I never know when my a part is left dry, what if a little dot on my scalp covered by hair is dry, and the shower didn't wash there. Whispers whispers whispers!!! Don't care |

Brother as far as your nasal congestion goes you should try nasal irrigation. It is very beneficial.
Its a solution of salt, bicarb and warm water. Do a search and learn more about it. If you do try it let us know if it helps. This is the product that I use: http://www.reitzer.co.za/product_view.asp?ProductID=39 |

assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakathuhum
so using fingers rather than sniffing is sufficient, ?can this be done in ghusl as well rather than sniffing the water ? do you have any evidence for this? im not trying to sound rude i genuinely would like to know, as t i have read this by another poster and i was hoping you might have a fatwa or something?) It would put my mind at ease greatly insha'Allah. jazakAllahu khair assalamu alaikum wa rahmatulllahi wa barakathuhu As-salamu alaikum |

assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakathuhu, i thought it was the soft part?
can you just confirm what is the soft and hard parts of the nose. (i think the hard part is the bony center part of the nose right? but what would the the soft part be ....???) sorry silly questions but ive been dealing with some intense waswas (over wudhoo..) over the past few months and ..i am seem to be getting more and more confused... jazakAllahu khair, assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakathuhu Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. |

Hi, this is my first post, 1) you don't need to snuff it all the way up. snuff a bit of water up and clean it with your finger. 2) there's no fixed time but it normally takes me around 1 minute to do wudu, and 7 minutes for a fardh ghusl. note that snuffing water up your nose is only required in a FARDH ghusl (which is required after the release of semen emissions from the occupant of your underpants). Since youre still 15, and obviously not married, and not doing something you shouldnt be, fard ghusl isnt required of you so you can skip out the water snuffing if it hurts you. and you don't have to make sure every hair is wet in a non-fardh ghusl. 3) if you are having a 30 minute shower, you will be pouring water over your whole body over a hundered times, so i think you can be pretty sure that your (fardh) ghusl is done. In the past, people used to fill a small 5 litre bucket and have a FARDH ghusl from that. They would use a cup to scoop water out and pour the water from the cup over their whole body. If their fardh ghusl was done with that much water, do you really think that yours, with the 150 litres you used, is not done?!? |

aaww,
ignore the whispers of shaytaan. just do your ghusl or wudhu and ignore waswasa. shaytaan is keeping you away from ibaadat and worship by making you waste your time. ALLAH SWT knows your intention and knows what you have in your heart and if you do make error INSHALLAH it will be forgiven .ALLAH SWT IS MOST FORGIVING. Brother we all have limited time in this world so make good use of this time in worship and not wasting it in excessive time in wudhu and ghusl. Remember time is a blessing ,make good use of it and don't waste it. Water is a blessing ,don't abuse it. MAY ALLAH SWT MAKE IT EASY FOR YOU AND ALL OTHERS WHO HAVE OTHER PROBLEMS. |
