Here in Indo/Pak region there's a tradition of giving money as "Eidee" on the day of Eid-ul-fitr by the parent/uncle/senior member to the children or junior members or nearby younger relative.
I am not sure whether it is practiced only in south east asia or in other part of the islamic world. Children or teenagers spend this money on various activities on the day of Eid. It has been observed that most of them spend it on sinful act whereby ignoring the regular salaah with handful of exceptional youth. Some tend to think after chand raat that"ab chutti ho gayi". I don't want to go in detail about the night of laylatul jayaza and the virtues of eid day. Its good to spend time with the family/friends by going on outing but without compromising on the compulsory prayers and abstaining from intermingling of sex. Some of our brothers feels it is Fard-e-Ayn to watch movie on the day of eid. Because of this there's rush at the auditorium hence even a super-duper flop movie goes with a housefull show. Courtesy Miyabhai! Some take advantage of this madness of miyabhai and plan the release of their movie on the day of Eid. Just wanted to share my concern about the pain one feel's when we see our brothers and sister camping outside theatres and other vain places. |

brother. I can completely relate to what you have mentioned here. We used to be one of those 'miyabhai' families visting movie theatres every Eid. Alhamdulillah not any more Funny part is it's muslim actors who release their movies on Eid. Whatever it is, it indeed is a sad state. I remember, we changed because of taalim and halaqas. may Allah give us the toufeeq to change the muslims around us, inshaAllah.
I am not sure about Eidie in other parts of the world, but yes in India for sure it's a big thing. I have an older brother who used to buy me gifts from his eidie money, subhanAllah |

Yeah we have eidi culture...but never bothered about it . My cousins used to ask others forcibly but we didn't. My father used to give us Rs.200/- as eidi and even now he gives Rs.500/- My sisters demand me to give eidi and take it forcibly |

Nowadays even kids have fixed MEA (min'm eidie amount), they don't accept below that. They hv specific plan for eid, basi-eid, tiwasi-eid, chauvasi-eid......like they keep on celebrating it upto a week . |
