Default How do you calculate the amount of silk in your tie?

Any comments? Is there a difference when the silk is combined with another material, then it is up to 50% and if not, then it is only the breadth of 4 fingers?

In the Hanafi school, it is permitted without dislike to wear items of clothing in which there is less than 50% silk content. [Nahlawi, al-Hadhr wa'l Ibaha]

Now, while the Hanafi school permits a certain amount of silk in clothes, this is only if it is not entirely or overwhelmingly made from silk, such as silk piping or embroidery. Entire items, such as silk ties, are not permitted. [Naf` al-Mufti wa’l Sa’il of Imam Abd al-Hayy al-Lakhnawi]

There are some narrations of Umar (Radhiallaahu Anhu) that Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) allowed wearing silk to the amount of the index and middle finger. (Bukhari pg.284 vol.10)

The Jurists have ruled that is the limit for the breadth of the silk cloth.

However it is best for men to abstain from wearing silk. Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said in one hadith whoever adorns himself with silk in this world, he shall be deprived of silken garments in the hereafter. (Mishkaat pg 174 Darul Arqam)

The Shafi'iyya seems to measure with weight:
It is unlawful for a man to wear any garments made of silk. If the garment is made of silk as well as other materials, then if the materials are woven together into a single fabric and the weight of the non-silk component is greater than the weight of the silk component, then it is permissible to wear the garment. However, if the weight of the silk component is greater than the other component, or they are of equal weight, then it is unlawful to wear the garment. If one is unsure of the weight of each component, then, according to Ibn Hajar in the Tuhfa, the default assumption on the garment is that it is permissible to wear.
